3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

In a lawsuit, Lauren Pisciotta alleges the star sent her lewd texts and performed sex acts while on the phone with her, according to US media.

She claims she was fired in 2022, but that a $3 million (£2.4 million) severance package was never paid.

The BBC has contacted West's lawyer for a response to her allegations, but has yet to receive a reply.

The lawsuit was first reported in the US by TMZ, and later confirmed by Rolling Stone, The Wrap and US Weekly, which says court papers were filed on Monday in the US.

I'm starting to think this Kanye West character may not be such a good guy

I don't know, anyone who loves Hitler can't be all bad, can they?

The only thing that I can appreciate about Trump is that growing up, I could not fathom how people were swayed into supporting that regime. I thought there's no way that type of propaganda can work on that many people. Well unfortunately I can now.

Sinclair Lewis wrote a book about the U.S. becoming a fascist dictatorship by electing a populist demagogue in 1935!

People have been warning about this since before WWII and, unfortunately, it's taken this long for people to listen. I just hope it isn't too late.

Surprisingly enough, I recently said the same thing to someone. Now I know, the Cult of Personality is real.

I read somewhere that Kim kardashian confirmed that he didn’t get this joke. I don’t care if it’s real, because it makes me very happy to imagine

I want to say he also tweeted something about it, and basically proved South Park's stereotype correct

I propose a new morality scale ranging from Eastwood to West.

[–] Vespair@lemm.ee 17 points 2 years ago (1 children)

....Clint Eastwood? Are you implying Clint fucking Eastwood is a paragon of morality or am I misreading this somehow?

[–] Good_morning@lemmynsfw.com 10 points 2 years ago (1 children)

In comparison, wasnt intended to be taken seriously though, couldn't think of another "east" name

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Fair enough. Clint kinda burned his whole deal with the talking-to-an-empty-chair bit. And, y'know, other things.

[–] girlfreddy@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The 'other things' are what killed my respect, and interest, in the man and his movies.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Yeah, I hear that. I make a very limited exception for the stuff about jazz that he does, but it’s super small, relatively speaking.

A lawsuit which surprised no one.

But discovery should be fun...

is that because people suspected he was an abuser or because hes generally going crazy?

[–] BongsForJesus@lemmy.wtf 36 points 2 years ago (1 children)

She claims she was fired in 2022, but that a $3 million (£2.4 million) severance package was never paid.

West subsequently hired Pisciotta as his personal assistant, with an annual salary of $1 million (£780,000), on the condition that she was available "24-7". She says she agreed to the terms.

According to her lawsuit, West was initially comfortable with her continuing her OnlyFans business. However, in 2022, he allegedly stated that he wanted Pisciotta to be "God like" and asked her to delete her account in exchange for a further $1 million.

After she closed the account, she claims she was bombarded with explicit text messages from West, including pornographic videos.

This is fucking crazy. He wants to be her white knight and save her from the perils of sex work and thinks he can do this with money and sexting.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 18 points 2 years ago

This is fucking crazy.

I mean - yeah. That's. Y'know. Kinda the issue I think.

[–] Stern@lemmy.world 35 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Always surprising to me to hear about sexual harassment and assault complaints about rich folks. Like bruh, you're rich, you can absolutely pay for very high (or very low, I'm not judging) class sex workers who will happily do all the weird stuff you want. Hell you could even be the person in those hypothetical questions and see if the dude whos all, "yea id never slob a knob, not even for a million bucks" is legit or not. No need for psyop powerplay nonsense or powerharassing assistants, the hell.

[–] dustyData@lemmy.world 36 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Well, this kind of things are rarely purely about the sex. It's not an hedonist desire for pleasure, but about the taboo exertion of absolute power and ownership over a person that is unwilling, or is illegal for them, to submit. Just like how some rapists aren't doing it for the orgasm, but for the violence of subduing and dominating a person. Now, a healthy person would be satisfied with a fantasy, some would venture for a consensual role play. Psychopaths with unlimited power and money know they can access and usually get away with the real event.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

Exactly, this is ye, he could get laid for free every day just by posting asking if someone wants to fuck him. He wants to take pleasure not share it

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 13 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Everything in the world is about sex except sex. Sex is about power.

[–] hoshikarakitaridia@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago

I think for those people it's usually the excitement of doing something that's frowned upon in the sexual context. It's the same idea as in incest porn. People don't like that because the idea of incest is great, but because of the excitement about it's illegality and maybe even it's exclusivity.

[–] Vespair@lemm.ee 20 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Doesn't matter. This dude has literally opened referred to himself as a Nazi and Hitler apologist and people still put his shit on playlists and radio stations are still playing his music.

Kanye is proof that morality is just posturing, and the moment it is an inconvenience the vast majority will immediately discard it.

[–] KevonLooney@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Don't look up all the problematic stuff that artists have done. It's never ending. That's because we don't select artists because they're good people, we select them because they make good art.

[–] Vespair@lemm.ee 11 points 2 years ago

Imo there is an enormous difference between personal moral failings, hell even personal acts of evil, and endorsing a hateful and toxic ideology.

I don't expect my artists to be paragons of personal virtue, but I absolutely am not okay supporting artists who are actively spreading hate.

[–] gila@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago (2 children)

It matters insofar as there aren't any normal, well adjusted people that are Kanye stans anymore. I was a top 0.1% Kanye listener - one time my friend even had a Kanye birthday cake made for me. Completely dropped his music after the white lives matter shit. For those that casually enjoy a song or two, his antics just don't occupy that much of their headspace.

i know that in order to enjoy hip hop you basically need to be able to separate the art from the artist, but this dude took such a turn that now im like, was yeezus even good?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

i know that in order to enjoy hip hop you basically need to be able to separate the art from the artist,

Do you? I'm not a huge hip hop fan, but there are plenty of artists who haven't done anything atrocious as far as we know.

If you have an ethical problem listening to a musician like Kanye, I guarantee you there are plenty of other artists out there you probably have never even heard of with music you'll like just as much if you go out and look for them.
