I’ve just rewatched Prometheus and at the end the lead character has said “I don't want go to back to where we came from. I want to go where they came from.” Herself and David then take off.

In the follow up movie (Covenant), they end up in another uninhabited place. I can barely remember the movie but was so disappointed by this given I had even expecting something different since 2012 😂

I don’t plan on rewatching Covenant. Can anyone explain that apparent disconnect I have?

They did go to the engineer world, that's where David did a bit of genocide

I don't believe Alien: Covenant takes place at the engineers home world. If you compare the engineers from Prometheus with the inhabitants from Covenant, they don't look the same. They look more as another "experiment" like the humans.

The home world was exactly where she said she was going in Prometheus.

Yes, Shaw said that. But only David knew how to read and operate the ship controls, he could go anywhere that the engineers had in the database. David can't be trusted has we see in both movies, and in Covenant he's is own boss.

If you look at the deleted scenes for the move it is clear they go to the engineers home world.

I'll have to look in to that.

I've found this at avp.fandom:

The Engineers from Planet 4 as seen in Alien: Covenant, however, appeared more primitive and slightly different in appearance from those the crew of the USCSS Prometheus encountered on LV-223, having eyes more closely resembling those of humans, far more variance in body shape and appear to vary in height as well, compared to the universally tall and muscular Engineers seen in Prometheus, although the clothes they wore bear a striking resemblance to those worn by the sacrificial Engineer from Prometheus. Based on a cut scene from Prometheus, as well as their voices as heard during David's genocide on Planet 4, their voices appear similarly human-like, although seemingly lower in pitch.

So let's say that indeed it is the engineers home world, what's your guess has for the Covenant and Prometheus engineers not looking the same?

Evolution? The Engineers in Prometheus were in cryostasis for a long time, whereas the Engineers from Covenant were from around the time of the movie. Even if it wasn't enough time to evolve naturally, the Engineers are god-like bio-engineers. Who's to say if they didn't edit themselves?

The difference in my opinion is soldier as opposed to civilians.

Thanks for that. I’d forgotten. Seems like a way to avoid the challenge of showing their world as a living thing.

Well yes, this is biggest gripe with covenant. It timeskipped across the next and objectively more interesting part of prometheus only to tell another not too difficult to predict aliens movie. It doesn't help shaw was not even present in covenant (unless you count a skeleton). I think the background to what happened there is more interesting than any of the other movies we got since.
