Excuse me, op specifically asked for terrible places

[–] JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 months ago

Yeah, I went by the examples in the text, not the title :)

[–] TheWeirdestCunt@lemm.ee 31 points 3 months ago (1 children)

There's a UK road trip that goes from Twatt to Shitterton through Cock Bridge, Dick Place, Cock Alley, Bitchfield, Whores Wood and Ass Hill.

[–] HurlingDurling@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

But why is it terrible tho?

[–] TheWeirdestCunt@lemm.ee 11 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Ah I read it as terribly named places for some reason

[–] JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 months ago

I think that's what OP did mean given the examples.

[–] fjordbasa@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

You’re fine, OP’s question isn’t terribly clear

[–] tetris11@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 months ago

We should... we should kill OP, correct?

Texas is a pretty terrible place. And it’s huge. Have fun.

[–] RobotToaster@mander.xyz 16 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

There's a village not far from me called Shitterton. It's actually quite nice despite the name.

Tracy, California.

All I know about it is when my friends car broke down there for two days. Sounded awful.

So yeah, a terrible place for a road trip destination.

Similarly, I'd also say Monroe, Louisiana. To quote an old B-movie from the 50's "There's nothing off of I-20!"

There's no unfortunately named landmarks, just unfortunate people in unfortunate towns.

[–] RagingHungryPanda@lemm.ee 5 points 3 months ago

Very accurate. But don't worry, there are worse places along the way!

[–] miracleorange@beehaw.org 2 points 3 months ago

Can confirm, Tracy is in the middle of nowhere and there's nothing to do.

[–] tetris11@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago

it sounds so innocuous. What's wrong with it?

[–] very_well_lost@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago

There's a state park in Kentucky called "Big Bone Lick"

[–] Fondots@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago (3 children)

I once drove through Ohio, don't remember my exact route, but came up north from Kentucky to Cincinnati, then east into Pennsylvania

There may be more boring drives out there, but I haven't made them.

Cincinnati seemed like a nice enough city though. Can't think of any particular reason I'd ever want to go back, but I didn't hate it, so that was pretty much the high point of my time in Ohio

[–] SendMePhotos@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

Any drive through Nebraska blows.

[–] EonNShadow@pawb.social 2 points 3 months ago

Denver to St Louis through KS and MI is up there

Doesn't help that getting from West to East on i70 through Kansas City is a nightmare after driving that long.

Spoiler: i70 doesn't just run through the city like one would think.

[–] TheRealKuni@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Clearly you’ve never had goetta.

[–] Fondots@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I haven't, but I live in PA, so we have scrapple which sounds pretty similar.

[–] TheRealKuni@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Yeah, very similar but with steel-cut oats instead of cornmeal/flour. I’ve not had scrapple but I understand they’re very similar, both born out of German immigrants trying to stretch meat servings and save money.

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 5 points 3 months ago

I'm paying a shit ton to have a basement. Why the hell would I leave it?

[–] Etterra@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

Athol. It's in Mathachuthetts.

Jokes aside the town does suck.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I’m from Massachusetts. I don’t think I have ever heard anyone say they were going to Athol for any reason.

[–] Meltrax@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Precisely. I used to drive through there on my way to/from college. It sucks there.

[–] frigidaphelion@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Where exactly is Bill's Hentai Cavern? Asking for a friend

[–] POTOOOOOOOO@reddthat.com 5 points 3 months ago

It was a made up example that I can only hope stays made up.

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Is exct a thing or just a typo?

Scunthorpe

Just never go to Scunthorpe

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Toad Suck, Arkansas. Got a cool pic at the lock and dam, missed the park and the town itself.

Transylvania, Louisiana. Got a pic of the bat painted on the water tower, but the general store/Post Office was closed, so no souvenirs.

[–] fjordbasa@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I wouldn’t force Louisiana on my worst enemy. The coast is probably fine, but in deep Louisiana, I saw more trash heaps, cars on blocks, and churches than actual businesses or non-dilapidated homes

[–] Glimpythegoblin@lemm.ee 2 points 3 months ago

The coast is just as bad. I've done the east arkansas to new Orleans drive. Never again.
