Aid to several communities impacted by Hurricane Helene was temporarily paused in parts of North Carolina over the weekend due to reports of threats against Federal Emergency Management Agency responders, amid a backdrop of misinformation about responses to recent storms.

Some FEMA operations were paused in Ashe County out of an abundance of caution Sunday, Ashe County Sheriff B. Phil Howell said on Facebook. This includes in-person applications for aid in at least two locations “due to threats occurring in some counties,” according to the county’s emergency management office. That assistance is expected to resume Monday.

Whoever is spreading this shit needs to be silenced and brought to justice.

The fact it happens so much is evidence the FuckingAround is not having a permanent FindingOut cooling-off period afterwards. That needs to be fixed, pronto!

I'm sure it's being amplified by Russian disinfo and the like - but there are almost certainly domestic sources (including Marjorie Taylor Green) and yea, we need to find some reasonable way to counteract them.

I agree.

Unfortunately, he's still running for president.

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago

Well I'm sure Merrick "Nap Time" Garland is going to get right on it.

It’s a really shitty thing to do, and I can’t believe people are actually falling for it, but it’s a really effective solution seen with GOP eyes. The government don’t get to help people, people get outraged with the government, people get outraged with the democrats (ruling party), GOP has a clearer path towards cutting government functions they don’t want, people get worse off.

It's just very impressive that people fall for this dogshit

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 35 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Seriously. How dumb do you have to be to not see through this?

[–] thebeardedpotato@lemmy.world 50 points 1 month ago

The same amount of dumb you have to be to be “god fearing” and think that a treasonous, lying, cheating, adulterous, rapist of an orange baboon is some sort of messiah

This dumb

This is like attacking CDC over covid, but even more thoughtless, as you can literally see the hurricane damage with your own eyes.

(I’d like to ignore and not discuss the possibility of people seriously thinking these disasters were artificially created.)

[–] skvlp@lemm.ee 3 points 1 month ago

It’s probably stemming from very deliberate misinformation, conflicting information, divide and conquer, gaslighting, manipulation, and so forth.

[–] fuckingkangaroos@lemm.ee 19 points 1 month ago

Yeah, if the Biden admin helps people like its supposed to, Harris is more likely to won the election.

So Republicans are using terrorism to stop desperate people from getting help.

[–] Supervisor194@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

This really just amounts to remnants of The South (and those allied to the cause for whatever reason) attempting to destroy the federal government.

[–] skvlp@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There’s probably something to this. But I’d think it’s time to move on. Is this some sort of dogmatic belief system that is thoroughly and blindly beaten into every successive generation?

[–] Saleh@feddit.org 1 points 1 month ago

It is a proxy/identifier for other social, political and economic divides

[–] orcrist@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

I don't think this is going to outrage anyone new. People who already thought the Democrats were destroying the country are probably still thinking that, and now they just don't get any support, and their neighbors who were hoping for support are pissed off that their neighbors are assholes, because they can read what's happening in the newspaper and they can use their eyes and ears and brains.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 63 points 1 month ago

Oh for fuck's sake.

Never mind adults that didn't ask for this conspiracy shit, children are going to die.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 26 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They’ll mobilize the national guard for college campus protests but we have armed militias preventing domestic government aid and not a single boot on the ground or dissident hauled away. Pathetic.

[–] capital@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Not saying it’s a good reason for pulling back or not deploying troops but, that would certainly “confirm” these idiots fears of “tha gubmint” coming for their guns.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

An Obama-shaped shadow looming in their garden would do the same. Training these people that these actions have no consequences is far more dangerous than listening to them whine about the government, which they were going to do anyway.

[–] capital@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I take your point.

[–] AlecSadler@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago

What the fuck.
