Summary

A shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, left a teacher, a teenage student, and the teen suspect dead, with six other students injured—two critically.

Police confirmed the suspect, a female student, used a handgun, though the motive remains unclear.

Officials, including President Biden, Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, and education leaders, called for urgent action on gun violence prevention.

The tragedy, which unfolded in a confined school space, sparked renewed calls for gun safety legislation amid growing national concerns about school safety.

I keep joking to myself in my head it’s because we’re atheists (this was actually my daughter’s school, she is fine). It’s been a rough day

Physically fine, maybe. And I'm glad for her, but definitely keep an eye out for signs of PTSD. She didn't even have to see or hear anything herself.

Very true, that’s what everyone’s been saying and we’ll be on the look out for it. It really seems like she doesn’t get what happened, which I’m thankful for but is making the situation kind of dissonant for me. From what she’s told us she had a great day where they got to ride a city bus and play with dogs, and her temperament all last night was normal so far. I can believe it too because of the location of her classroom in relation to the library, she and her classmates and the other young classes might have not heard anything, with the only unusual part of their day being the lockdown and then being whisked away.

Went into the library several weeks ago for the kids to sing for their parents, and now this, yikes

No! NO GUN CONTROL! All we can do is hope and pray! Do you hear me! HOPES AND PRAYERS!!! we don't want to end up like russia now, do we!? PLEASE PEOPLE I'M BEGGING YOU, PRAY LIKE YOU'VE NEVER PRAYED BEFORE AND HOPE LIKE YOU'VE NEVER HOPED BEFORE. NO LAW OR REGULATION CAN HELP US NOW, JUST HOPES AND PRAYERS.

Edit: I messed up. We should have been thinking and praying and not hoping and praying. This is all my fault I'm sorry, everyone.

Which presumably were taught, and present in abundance, at this august institution

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

No longer so abundant apparently.

The first story I saw about this today already had "thoughts and prayers" from Ron Johnson.
