Twin sisters set to attend University of Waterloo to complete their PhDs have died in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza.

Dalia Ghazi Ibaid and Sally Ghazi Ibaid were planning to come to Waterloo to do their PhDs in System Design Engineering. They were both recipients of UWaterloo’s Student Relief Fellowship.

“Dalia and Sally were selected based on their outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated research potential,” read UWaterloo’s statement.

They were both killed in an airstrike on Dec. 5.

The University's administration has seemed to be extremely bigoted in the past, so probably.

Damn it I wrote a long comment and it got discarded because I'm wearing gloves which are already hard to type in.

From memory.

Your post is very sad and shows just how indiscriminate Israel is doing their ~~genocide, ethnic cleansing, occupational land grab,~~ I mean the special military operation against Hamas of course.

Thank you very much because it sent me on deep dive about Islamic law and how it varies between groups. From there I ended up learning that really good za'atar is made there. I'm almost out of what I have so I got some of that and some more things from Al'Ard.

They claim everything they sell is Palestinian-made. I sent them a question about how they're doing getting this stuff out of the country. Anyway it came with a free keffiyeh which I've thought were dope since I had a roommate with one and he explained its significance. This was almost 20 years ago. Now I feel confident to wear it and I'm ready for a scuffle if someone has a problem.

So thank you for the last hour and a half of learning!

I knew very little about Palestinian culture before this genocide. I have learned so much, which I'm immensely grateful for, though I regret the circumstances that fuelled my interest. I have found that learning about Palestine and its people has helped me to understand this conflict beyond the horror of the ever-increasing casualty figures, while keeping me grounded enough that I don't emotionally burn out and have to tune out from what's happening.

You might enjoy this article about Palestinian weaving. It's quite short, but it has some good links for more reading.

Ugh, I'm all too familiar with that frustration. Thanks for rewriting what you able to, I appreciate your comment even (especially?) if it isn't as coherent/details as your intended one was.
