I'm no biologist, but I'm pretty sure nobody produces gametes at conception. If you want to be pedantic, oocytes form before birth, but actual sperm and eggs don't show up till puberty (feel free to correct me).

Now, I would LOVE if we don't assign gender till puberty, but I still don't like the method.

What about people who produce neither?

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago (3 children)

They usually handwave and claim "they don't count" because they can't reproduce, assuming that somehow means they can be ignored.

i don't think embryos produce any reproductive cells right away so that handwave would have to cover... everyone

I recommend everyone visit the DMV as soon as possible to change their license. It's an order from the commander in chief.

Now that I think of it: every DMV should be only be able to issue licenses with a female designation. Facts and law suites don't care about your feelings, snow flakes.

Someone has to do something. A lot of someones. All at the same time. All across the world. We have to do something about this. It's too far. We cannot let things go on like this. This will not stand.

This is either AI slop. Ignorant because they think babies are made by god and immediately have genitals. Deliberately as anti science as possible to muddy things further.

Probably all 3.

Yup. At conception, I'm prettybsure there's really fuck all going on - plus, how's it getting measured? Most people aren't that sure of their date of conception!

So then what? We look at the organs at birth? (Gender=sex)

[–] festnt@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 day ago (2 children)

they just need a time machine to travel back and test which gametes the single cell is producing. just wait until they discover it takes quite a bit until those are produced

unless they meant to say at birth, cause at conception it makes no sense. so what the heck happens to anyone who has both genitalia? what about people who can't produce gametes? they have no idea what they're doing lmao

also what were those definitions before?

Maybe I'm blazed off my rocker, but isn't that an approximate definition you'd get from a biology prof. if they're in a hurry? I swear I heard something like that in one genetics class many moons ago. (I know the actual quote is probably wrong, but the rest is meh ok yeah sure.)
