[–] WhenItsHalfPastFive@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They will definitely run this lineup at some point during the season.

Why didn’t you list Gary Payton’s dad, how am I supposed to know who he is?

[–] mikekowa@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because it's fucking obvious? Everyone knows Chicago Bears legend Walter Payton.

[–] aaden08@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

[–] Briggity_Brak@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Wait, how did the Warriors end up with Trayce?

[–] mykl5@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He was pick #57

[–] kentuckyfriedawesome@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He fell way further than he should have. They actually traded up to get him, IIRC.

Surely the whole NBA can trace their lineage back to Wilt Chamberlain.

I remember Dale Davis on the Pistons. Dude looked like a grandpa even while he was playing, even though he was in his thirties.

[–] RVAIsTheGreatest@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Talk about Great Genes. The Warriors run makes even more sense now thinking about it. Clearly they have a type and the results speak for themselves.

[–] Produceher@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The Warriors run makes even more sense now

Not really. Sure. They all had a huge leg up but if you replace Steph with Seth, they don't also have this success. What isn't that surprising is how many NBA players had dads that played. But becoming a dynasty has little to do with that.

[–] Peepeetodapin@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Gp2 doesn’t have a father?

[–] JBtheBadguy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Somebody call Christian Cage

[–] Wazflame@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

During the 2022 finals this was brought up in an interview and Steve Kerr said it was definitely an advantage in terms of making it to the NBA: obviously doesn't guarantee anything but seeing the work ethic required at an early age helps

[–] BobanTheGiant@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Genes definitely help. The funniest to me is the offspring of Horace and Harvey Grant. Horace was the better player but his kids didn’t get the athletic talent. Harvey had four son play in college, 2 in the nba

You're just not going to tell us who Gary Payton II's dad was?

[–] timebomb011@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Nepo Bay-bies

[–] PotatoMan19399@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Nothing like a San Francisco based organization to hand out jobs based on nepotism

[–] SharksFanAbroad@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Gotta be the first time in NBA history where five 2nd gens are on the same team? Maybe even in pro sports history.

[–] electricHats75@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Who is Gary Payton II’s dad? You didn’t mention him

[–] HHH98Smark@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I believe it’s The Glove, but apparently a glove wasn’t used.

[–] Bucharik@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

the 2022 Pheonix Suns also did this, even more impressive their entire starting 5 had the same father

[–] AnthonyTyrael@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

[–] KDY_ISD@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Fuckin' generational health

[–] financial_goth@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] MAdphotoman@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Playing in the 70s and 80s wasn’t exactly profitable like it is today. Especially non all stars.

[–] financial_goth@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It was a joke haha but if we were to look at it seriously then saying it wasn't profitable during the times these guys played is simply not true.

Every one of those players except Wiggins made millions of dollars which is more money than 99% of people will make in their entire lives.

Career Earnings of the mentioned players with current US dollars adjusted for inflation in parentheses.

Dell Curry / $19,296,000($37,499,691)

Gary Payton / $104,367,619($190,905,929)

Mychal Thompson / $2,422,000($5,498,422)

Mitchell Wiggins / $670,000($1,480,595)

Dale Davis / $77,281,958($136,891,413)

Even the guys like Wiggins and Thompson who weren't All Stars made a good amount of money in the context of how long they were in the league which was only 2 seasons each.

Wiggins who made the least of the 5 both in total and per year still made 335,00 a year more than most doctors and lawyers make but nobody would say being a lawyer of a doctor isn't profitable.

Now is that trust fund money? No clearly not haha but it was still profitable it's not like Mychal Thompson had to moonlight as a garbage man to support his family while he was in the NBA.

Back when GS played Cleveland in the finals something like 6 starters were second gen pro-NBA, WNBA, and overseas.

[–] puravidaamigo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Who is Gary Payton’s dad?

[–] Haru_2627@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Nepo time?

NBA Trivia, anyone?

[–] Map_Cal_py@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Bring back Luke Walton to coach!

[–] Mabbby@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I like how you didn’t feel the need to put GPII’s dad in parenthesis

[–] mastafuck@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Who’s Gary Payton II’s dad though?

[–] darklinkpolygon@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

If Wilt Chamberlain really made love to over 10000 women, I bet this already accidentally happened.
