Or, everything else should cost less. Here is my glashutte original panoreserve. I love it. I have known about GO for awhile but hadn’t really looked at it as an option. Last year I went to Watch Time NYC and they had a booth there.

First, quality was nuts. Seeing it person they’re so much nicer than what pics portray. Most impressive watches there for price I saw.

Second, everyone was so friendly and non judgmental. By comparison the guy at Breguet booth was such a pretentious douche bag it’s put me off the brand a bit.

Anyway, went and bought my own shortly after. I put a sickly mint strap that gets dirtier and more moody looking everyday, just the way I like. It’s manual wind and I like that I get to spend 15 seconds winding it everyday I wear it.

No it shouldn't other watches should be cheaper. This has already seen a few price increases too. Last thing the industry needs is more encouragement for expensive watches.

[–] Lancaster-PA@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

And agreed, the industry has gotten way to thirsty insane price are just normal now

[–] Lancaster-PA@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

That’s what I said! “Or, everything else should cost less”

[–] the_ammar@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (4 children)

preach.

the JLC 40% price hike totally killed my interest in the brand

[–] Lancaster-PA@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Yeah! Wtf I was looking at a reverso, not anymore

[–] the_ammar@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

without being able to see anyone's books or market research data my guess is they (watch companies) realize/think there's not much volume growth they can make so let's just jack up the price to improve their margins from the suckers that are still into these unnecessary toys

[–] Lancaster-PA@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

If we all got only what was necessary we’d all be living in a plywood shack like Ted Kaczynski

But, agreed that most abuse what is really needed. A few nice objects you really enjoy seems fine to me

It looks like it would cost waaaay more than a Rolex Sub, but it costs about the same.

Congratulations on not falling into the Rolex cult!

[–] Lancaster-PA@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

🙏 thank you and agreed

[–] WooollyBully@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Looks so good on that strap

Lovely! If I had to nitpick I’d wish they didn’t put the “Adjusted to 5 positions” on the back so prominently. They could tell me their internal processes in a manual or on a certificate or something.

Do you have any pics showing how thick the watch is? I really love the face, but I like my watches to be super thin.

[–] Inevitable-Studio497@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Main difference between a GO and a Lange is the extra 2-3mm in thickness and being 40mm

[–] Merakel@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

And what, $35k~?

I have a JLC Ultrathin Moon that I like. I want to branch out to something else, but it's gotta feel sleek :)

[–] Inevitable-Studio497@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Lange 1 ~$30k, Lange saxonia or 1815 ~$18-20k, VC Trad. Small seconds ~$15k. Breguet Classique 5177 ~$15k

Yeah that’s a beauty

[–] NinjaTabby@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

NEVER advocate for higher price than manufacturer already baked in profit price

[–] Lancaster-PA@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Yeah, title is terrible. Didn’t mean to make it sounds like that’s what I want. Meant more that other companies are insane compared to how well made this is for price. But yeah, agree

[–] mrbkkt1@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (5 children)

I absolutely loved and wanted this watch, until I saw one in person (at least, the panolunar version) That thing is a THICK boi. face on it looks amazing, 3/4 side view, turned me off. too much slab slided ness. Still, I'd buy one at a discount, but not G/O AD near me.

[–] Lancaster-PA@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Hmmm, yeah it is a bit thicker than normal, feels and looks nice to me

You could always just go for a Lange 1. Very similar look, not nearly as thick for like 5x the price lol.

Panoreserve is thinner than the panomatic lunar, maybe because it's hand wind instead of auto. This model doesn't feel like a slab.

I have the 39.5 SeaQ, very happy with it. I think they’re priced well, and others are priced poorly 👍

[–] wycliffec@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

When they put a display caseback on that baby she be going home with me.

[–] Sasquatchii@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I said the same thing for almost 2 years, finally I said F it. Glad I did! I actually really enjoy the engraved case back, much more interesting than my Rolexes.

[–] EgyptianEnigma@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

For anyone else wondering...

Around £10,500 or $10,700 retail

[–] -ceoz@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

And around 8k on Chrono24 in minty condition, hoping they stay there

[–] Yussso@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

I'm not used to watch prices, isn't that a lot of depreciation from retail price? Especially that it's still in minty condition.

These are stunning BUT I feel like the lack of precision would drive me absolutely insane.

Honest question: how does it not annoy the everliving fuck out of you that you can't tell what time it is between xx:23–xx:26 xx:34–xx:37 of every hour? It seems so counterintuitive to me that the watch is made with such precision yet you can't simply tell what time it is when looking at it.

I really love a lot of what GO is doing. I wish this design didn't bug me so much.

[–] Inevitable-Studio497@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

The printing is still there for the hour markers? Am I missing something on why you wouldn’t be able to tell the time when it gets to the bottom sub dial?

[–] StanS2@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I think some of the hours markers are just burned out by the reflections which is why you can't see them in that pic. They can be seen in the other pic posted.

[–] making_ideas_happen@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

No, they literally don't exist. Along with a few minutes.

[–] making_ideas_happen@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Am I missing something

Yes. It appears that the 15- and 45-second markers for the subdial are around where the 5- and 7-hours indexes (25- and 35-minute markers) would be, but they're not. They're somewhere around roughly 24 1/2 and 35 1/2 minutes and they completely obliterate the spacing of the minutes. It drives me batty when everything else about the watch is super precise.

[–] Lancaster-PA@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Indexes are all marked around dial, I’ve never had a hard time reading what time it is 🤷‍♂️

Out of the box it is running less than -1/+1 in five positions, seems very accurate to me.

[–] making_ideas_happen@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Indexes are all marked around dial

Literally not the minute markers I mentioned though, right?

[–] making_ideas_happen@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

P.S.

accurate

When I said "precision" above, I meant precision in reading the dial, not the movement! Obviously G.O. kicks ass all over most other makers technically.

[–] BadMr_Frosty@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

No, It should cost less.

[–] MiddleRay@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Nice watch, but over priced by 60%.

[–] Lancaster-PA@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Probably, but I don’t mind.

[–] wagglenews@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)
  1. Amazing watch
  2. What a strap choice, works perfectly to liven things up
  3. The only thing I don’t love about that watch is the dial text. Part of is any text, part of it is the poor font choice, part of it is that having ‘GANGRESERVEAUHSFARTEN’ on the dial - no German swear words needed. To be honest, this has been a dealbreaker for me so far.
[–] Lancaster-PA@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I’m embarrassed to say but it’s a Hodinkee strap. Haven’t been able find the color otherwise.

Fair enough about font. Could have been printed in a grey slightly lighter than dial. No need to draw so much attention to it.

My one beef with the watch is that GO does not sell parts. They are the only ones that can service it because of this, hence the $750 service price. To that I say, fuck you, I’ll make the replacement parts if I have to.

[–] wagglenews@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I think you take the look and don’t worry about the hodinkee heritage, it’s basically perfect (and I’m sure there are at least a few more, would love to see it on a light grey suede).

Yeah I think there are numerous things they could do to soften it or improve it, and hope they do. Seems to be a glaring design error IMO, I’m surprised it seems to stick around.

And service certainly is a bullet, hop you can dodge it.

But enough about the bad, it’s a gorgeous piece and you have made it better. Enjoy!

[–] Lancaster-PA@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Thank you 🙏

[–] HarrisLam@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

SHHHHHH!!!! Nuh Uh. Cut this out now!!!!!

[–] connurp@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Wow, that is a seriously beautiful piece. Never seen this reference before. Wear in good health friend, that baby is gorgeous!
