It’s beyond time to force billionaire owners to build their own damn stadium. No public money at all.
Are these arenas disposable? Seems like they should last longer than a couple decades.
15 years doesn’t seem like a long enough lifespan for a $90 million stadium. At this point the conversation should really be about how wasteful it is in the first place over who’s paying for it.

When done right it can benefit the surrounding areas. The bucks did this perfectly, and the area around the stadium went from a ghost town to one of the fastest growing areas in the city. The public is getting a great ROI before even considering team success.
Switching to baseball (I only know milwaukee, sorry) the brewers have brought virtually no economic boost whatsoever and the owner continues to put together middling teams just good enough to drain money from locals.
Taxpayers kinda get their money back through the taxes that the team/stadium generate anyways, but imo if it’s not EXTREMELY well thought out and planned and the team refuses to invest their own resources on the field/court it feels like a fucking DRAG.
Of course he’s going to pull this same shit again. The people of Oklahoma did nothing but cheer him on the last time he strong-armed a city so why wouldn’t he try the same thing on them?
Recently had a back and forth with the Mayor of OKC about this on X. He basically said this was the best offer the Thunder gave them after negotiations and if it’s not approved the Thunder WILL relocate, again.
