After silently judging as I scrolled through posts riddled with hot takes from 5 years ago I thought...

What are your hottest takes about how the NBA will look 5 years from now? (Go wild with your guesses, nobody will be judging you......)

My hot takes are

  1. Josh Giddy will be in the MVP race
  2. The Booklyn Nets will have either made or won the finals due to Bridges and Ben Simmons showing out
  3. LeBron will continue to refuse to retire, while still putting up 18/4/4. And will blame it on wanting to play with his wife's uncles barbers daughters stepson 17 years from now.

Homer take: Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels are considered the best two way duo in the league.

Naz Reid is an all star

But that’s gonna happen this year! 😉

We’ll look back at this thread so I want this to age well (it probably won’t) but the top 5 players will be Wemby, Giannis, Jokic, Luka, and Tatum.

  1. OKC will be the title favourites
  2. Gianis, Embiid and Luka won't be on the teams that drafted them
  3. Lebron is retiring
  4. Bulls enter a rebuild
  5. Hornets are still bad

The Magic will win more playoff series than the Raptors.

The following championships will be won by these 5 in no order. Denver, San Antonio, golden state, Orlando and Boston

Amen Thompson will be the best point guard in the league

  1. Kuminga can't be the #1 option on a championship team but strictly a #2.

  2. Wemby will be more glazed than LeBron ever did at year 5 without much of the scrutiny because he plays for the Spurs. He will have convos of being better than Kareem at worst because he can stretch the floor.

  3. Jokic will have a case for being Top 10, just like how we're having Steph Top 10 convos right now.

  4. Anthony Edwards vs Cooper Flagg who is the best wing in the league convos. The answer is probably Tatum 5 years from now.

  5. Luka Doncic is still in basketball hell despite being a GOATED player.

  6. Desmond Bane is one of the hottest free agents.

The new cba rules do not stop or slow the trend of top stars wanting out

Five years from now, in 2028, the NBA will…

• …still call it a blocking foul when the ball-handler drives into a defender who was matching pace and maintaining position between them and the basket.

• …still have a “restricted area” that causes unnecessary delays to review whether an obvious offensive foul can technically be called a defensive foul based on tiny positioning differences.

• …still require defenders to remain perfectly motionless when the ball-handler intentionally runs into them at full speed, and if they move even slightly to protect themself it will be a blocking foul.

• …still allow the ball-handler to get free throws by jumping into a defender who jumped vertically to contest a pump-fake, instead of needing to make a basketball play that takes advantage of the defender not being able to react again quickly.

• …still let players put their hand under the ball while dribbling, and take extra steps while “gathering”.

  1. Steph, LeBron, and Kawhi won’t win any more rings on their current teams.

  2. Kyrie will have demanded to be traded at least 3 more times.

  3. Luka, Embiid, Tatum, Lamelo, Zion, Trae, Ja, and KAT will all be on different teams from now.

  4. At least one ringless team will win their first championship.

  5. At least 3 of the currently rebuilding teams (Rockets, Hornets, Pacers, Jazz, Magic, Pistons, Spurs, Blazers, Wizards) are going to fail miserably.

Wemby is a 5x chanp

[–] ryan_the_traplord@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

There will be more than 20 players averaging 30+ a game

[–] RayearthIX@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The best player in the league will be a 6’11” player who dominates glass and scores 50 a game from the paint as the league shifts to shoot 80 3-pointers a game and everyone forgets what rebounding is, making this one lone big man the new Wilt.

[–] ryansmythe@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Jimmy Butler will debut a mullet at media day.

[–] NelsonMuntz007@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Wemby can’t stay healthy. The Celtics never make a finals and Tatum is the new Chris Paul. The in season tournament gets completely scrapped. Zion is out of the league.

[–] heartofcoal@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Celtics win a chip, OKC hit the finals, Spurs can't get enough support for Wemby, Mavs implode and trade Luka, Bucks wins another chip

[–] wuudster@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Luka will lose in the finals before leaving the Mavs and getting a ring within the next two seasons

[–] Emera1dthumb@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I don’t have as much faith in Giddy as the pundits, but I have been wrong before. That team could be competing for a Larry O’Brien trophy in about 2 to 3 years though….with or without giddy. I am curious about what kind of veteran help they trade for in the next few years with all those 2nd round picks.
