Charles Barkley questions Adam Silver on the NBA’s addressing of domestic violence incidents

Barkley’s question came at the end of Silver’s interview segment and it appeared that the former star was going off-script by asking the question, as he seemed to brush off a call for the show to go on commercial break.

The Athletic confirmed with a television source onsite in Denver who agreed to speak under the condition of anonymity that Barkley’s question was on the spot and not scripted.

Gotta love Chuck!

[–] ApoliticalAth3ist@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Even bigger fan of Barkley now

[–] FirstTimeLongThyme@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What are they gonna do? Fire him?

[–] 0dias_Chrysalis@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Cynical assholes on reddit who contribute less than nothing tried to put down a man who did something none of them would be capable of, much less even try themselves. That's why they thought it was scripted. Ain't got the minerals

[–] Ill_Tough2165@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No one is putting him down, literally everyone is saying good for Charles, seems the only cynical asshole is you trying to start some bs in this chat with non existent haters. Also plenty of people would love to call out why the punishment isn’t fitting the crime (literally) with these cases, not every average Joe can ask Adam if he will do something about these players, what are you on.

Youre gonna have an unfun time if youre focusing on posts that get heavily downvoted

[–] pureply101@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

People need to realize Barkley won’t be fired for this. There will be something else inappropriate that he does that they will label as too far and he will be out for that. At least that will be the reason they tell people.

Chuck's a legend for this

[–] RVAIsTheGreatest@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That's called using your platform for good. Chuck always delivers.

[–] IHave580@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Silvers answer was terrible. "Cutting edge therapist"??

[–] Dsarg_92@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Chuck is a real one for that.

[–] thePDGr@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Barkley is the real people's champ

[–] Potential-Pipe-4957@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Given silvers complete alphabet soup corporate talk response I’m not surprised

[–] RegularJaded@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

The NBPA protects their players, not sure why everyone is egging on Silver and the league

[–] Levi_Snackerman@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Well then Silver should say that and call out the NBPA

[–] RJBarrettsBurner@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

lol that would be an unmitigated disaster for him

[–] No-Newspaper-7693@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Has the NBPA ever stood up and said "the punishment for domestic violence is too high" or have they just been used as a scapegoat because they might say something?

[–] scottishere@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They are providing training and counselling to players, that should do the trick. Meanwhile, suit up Miles!

What a scoop

Good on Chuck, the NBA and its teams need to be grilled on this

[–] swokong333@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I dunno. But I think they trimmed some fat because their viewership was decreasing. Talking heads weren't making them money, TV deals were. Not sure how long that will be the case. But the "ESPN is failing" narrative was overblown.

[–] rascal7298@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

what did silver say?

[–] Saucy_Totchie@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Common Chuck W

[–] rabidantidentyte@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Chaotic Good

[–] andy_sims@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Good on ya, Chuck. Just when I think that his evident boredom with his job should lead him to retire, he steps the fuck up. Silver’s feet absolutely need to be held to the fire about this.

[–] Rohkha@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah I’m gonna have to give credit to Barkley for that. That’s some actual journalism. Don’t care about status or what, ask the real question.

I know the answer will be some Blizzard level PR garbage. But man, what a bunch of cowards. You don’t need a PR team to just say how it should be:

Being good at something shouldn’t make you invincible and put you above the law.

[–] gorncoblin@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think this puts Chuck in the GOAT conversation

[–] Recent_Fail_0542@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Barkley ran out of fucks to give a long time ago.

[–] ImanShumpertplus@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

it was a good job how charles framed it to ask it in a manner that wasn’t antagonistic too

[–] maddogfarm@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Barkley going off script to ask question that matter, what an legend

[–] hidey_ho_nedflanders@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Good on him for asking this question to Silver. It is a serious issue that can't be swept under the rug

[–] Purganis@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Finally someone who asks the important questions.

Id like to see the NBA be more pro active in this. Its a bad situation and honestly they should adress it and do something about it.

[–] Disconnected_NPC@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He IS NOT a role model . Love me some Chuck

[–] Simple-Account-2490@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Silver sounds like a corporate fart in the wind. Dude doesn't give a fuck about anything other than cash.

[–] MamiSoldier323@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Is Lebron James a mad made or is he Roman Reigns?

It’s difficult to see stuff like this from the media and not immediately extrapolate. Is growth more important to the NBA than credibility?

[–] DrownedInBeans@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I mean if it was scripted would it be likely that we'd hear about that? "Confirmed with a television source onsite who agreed to speak under the condition of anonymity" is about as vague of a source possible. And in a league like the NBA where completely false / made up rumors circulate constantly, I don't know why I'd take this Tweet seriously. I love Chuck and he seems like the type of dude to say whatever he wants (and he may have in this instance), but this Tweet is kinda totally meaningless lol

[–] TelfordClaret@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’d like him to ask some of the players next, they all seem fine with dapping up abusive pieces of shit

[–] lacesandlags@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Non scripted Barkley - that’s new

[–] R011_5af3_yeah@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Rehabilitation should be thw number one conceen for the individuals if you really carw about them. Punishment as a deterrent doesn't work, its been proven. People resort to violence when they don't know any better so use their outbreak to show them the right way to behave in said situations. I like Chuck but its not a fair question to ask without considering what it means.

[–] OutbackStankhouse@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

“I am a role model”

[–] richb83@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I love so much about Chuck and one of the things I always respect about him is that he really does seem to care about what he talks about. He might be the most genuine personality we ever saw in sports and media.

[–] EcstaticActionAtTen@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Kevin Porter Miles Bridges

Am I missing someone else?

That's two guys.

[–] joeb1ow@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Jaxson Hayes.

[–] bunkmorelandsburner@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

So the NBA is scripted
