JT O'Sullivan took huge issue over Carr not even trying to make a tackle despite injury around 25 minutes into the video. He says O-linemen see that and get pissed off. How do you feel personally?

Do not recommend.

Alternate timelines may begin branching out.

I know Bake wasn't looking great that season before the injury but.....MAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNN

That was a fun time to have the Browns games on as a neutral lol. The playoff win was so goddamn fun to watch.

[–] RedBuchan@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Baker got hurt in week 2, he completed over 80% of his passes in those games.

[–] chunkah69@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He looked great against the chiefs week 1. He was hurt the next game.

[–] No_Wave8441@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Carr isn't as small or valuable. Tua couldn't tackle a kicker, he needs to get out of there as soon as he passes the ball.

Carr isn't the engine that wins this team games. 50% of the players on the team would rather see Winston or Hill at QB. And Carr is about as big as some of the people picking him off. He isn't endearing himself to the team by not making the tackle.

[–] ArcadianBlueRogue@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

No lol

I am not big on the kicker doing it either but Crosby had to do it a few times over the years with us

[–] bobthebobofbob@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I would say it depends completely on the context. If it's the last 5 minutes of a close do or die game to make the playoffs and they are just trying to run a guy down from behind and can tackle him by tripping him up at the legs, then hell yeah, go for it.

If it's like week 2 during a blow out and there's a prime Kam Chancellor sized dude running full speed right at them, then hell no. Get out of the way and live to fight another day.

[–] ArcadianBlueRogue@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Wouldn't even go that in depth tbh

A simple shove out of bounds? Go for it

Need to make a physical hit or tackle? No chance

[–] bobthebobofbob@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I would say that I agree for the most part and I would for sure want them to be more on the cautious side when deciding if a tackle is worth the risk or not, but there are definitely situations where I would want them to go for it no matter what. If it's the very end of a game that decides if you make the playoffs or not, the QB is the only one between the defensive player and the defense, and it's going to be a walk off pick 6, then yeah, I want them to go for the tackle. For all you know, this is the closest your team will come to the playoffs for the next decade. You don't want to just let them go because you just hope to make it that far again next year. A game that decides if you make the playoffs is just as important as the actual playoff game.

Can think of at least a handful of current NFL QBs who got injured that way:

  • Herbert fractured finger 4 weeks ago

  • Mayfield torn labrum in 2021

  • Dalton fractured thumb in 2015

If you’re a fringe QB then yeah probably worth putting in the effort to help the team win but if you’re even an average league starter, potentially stopping a bigger return is not worth the really high injury risk and the lost value of you missing time with injury.

[–] rockchalk6782@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Agreed as a chiefs fan I don’t want Mahomes doing anymore than a shove out of bounds.

[–] onasafarisomewhere@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Cutler broke his thumb when we were like 7-1 years back

[–] Simmumah@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

No lol let them pick six that shit Goff is about as athletic as a resident in a memory care home

[–] 321mafia@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If it’s Derek Carr yes. If it’s Drew Brees no.

[–] KnowledgeThirsty@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If he can get to him then hell yeah he should tackle that guy

[–] CI_Whitefish@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Nah, probably not even in the postseason, unless that tackle decides the outcome of the SB.

It's better to throw a pick 6 and lose a game than to have Mike White under center.

[–] Chainxforest@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I generally don't think it's worth it

[–] StockHand1967@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hell to the "NO"

[–] kebnva@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

if you’re one of the 15ish good+ NFL QBs, you probably should protect yourself. but ultimately, especially in younger QBs, i’d rather see the competitive fire that trying to get a stop showcases.

it’s one thing if you’re a proven vet who can come back from those kinds of miscues, but if you’re not then show some fire and play football

[–] BowTie1989@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Do I want him to? No

Do I want him to have the competitive fire that he will do it anyway? Yes

[–] Bobonenazeze@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

No. At best? You stop a pick six. Don't injury yourself.

Likely case? 50/50 on making the tackle/injury.

Worst case? DEATH

Why stop a pick six and possibly hurt your offensive centerpiece (franchise qb or not)? That's the defense job. It's your job not to throw INTs but failed on that drive. Hope the defense can do it again.

[–] Vanilathunder73@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Absolutely not

[–] YOSHIMIvPROBOTS@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Josh Allen is the only QB in the league who should be obligated to chase down his own pick. He likes to truck, go truck.

[–] dgard5th@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

My guy went after a linebacker during a kerfuffle and has been known to shove a DLineman from time to time so…. 🤷‍♀️

[–] Radalict@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Remember when Brady sort of ran next to the guy last year and kind of reached his arms out? Hilarious stuff.

[–] BadDadJokes@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’d prefer my team’s QB to not throw the interception in the first place.

[–] Seanehh01@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

No.

It singlehandedly ruined our 2015 SB window

[–] MaroonedOctopus@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I agree with Carr here. A single INT pick-6 is nothing compared to the number of INTs Winston would throw if Carr is removed for 2+ weeks.

[–] eatmyopinions@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

You better be REALLY good to watch a guy run past you and expect your center, or your tight end, to chase them down instead.

[–] JunkScientist@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I want him to WANT to make the tackle.

[–] Thel_Odan@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

No, I want them to not throw an interception.

[–] DTopping80@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I’d say the problem isn’t even the tackling, the problem is giving some of the defenders free shots at your QB. They’re gonna take that chance 10/10 times.

[–] Nuclearsunburn@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Hell no. HELL no

[–] azure275@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

No tackle is a maximum of 7 points and maybe 1 game loss

Tackle is potentially an entire lost season

[–] jhallen2260@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Depends. If it's a last resort thing yes, if there are others that can make the play, no

[–] Cyclonitron@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Since my team's QB is an iron man, yes I want him to try to tackle.

[–] dkirk526@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Cam Newton first injured his shoulder that basically ended his career running down a interception after Kelvin Benjamin gave up on a route.

[–] FeistyCheesecake@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

One thing to note is that Carr has already suffered a shoulder injury this season; diving to attempt a tackle could mess with that. Also, the whole reason Drew Brees got hurt and didn’t re-sign with the Chargers is because he tried to dive for the ball on a play where he fumbled

[–] Paytonc51@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Unless it is an absolutely crucial play with our season on the line, no

[–] deebee1020@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I guess I'm in the minority? There's a limit to "don't do that, you might get hurt!!!" It's football.

I'm not saying I want a 210 lb. QB trying to body up a linebacker with a full head of steam, but I also don't want him to stand by and do nothing. Try to alter his path and slow him down at least. Tug on an arm if you can. Give your teammates a better chance to catch him.

[–] Funshine02@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Cam ended his career by doing this.

[–] Beaver_Tuxedo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I do, but my team also hasn’t had a good quarterback the entire time I’ve been alive so my thoughts might change if we had someone to lose

[–] TurfBurn95@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

At least slow the guy down so someone else can make the tackle.

[–] formyamusementation@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

First quarter, or worth a big lead? No. Two games or more lead in standings? No. Close game fighting for playoff positioning? Yes

[–] Tolve@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I know if I were the QB I'd try to make the tackle, and that's probably how most players feel.

[–] Player7592@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Situational. As a general rule, no. To prevent a game-winning score, yes.

[–] yellowtriangles@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago
  1. Maybe don't throw a pick six?
  2. We don't need a QB doing a textbook tackle, but at least try to get in front and slow the guy down
