A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.

I am a second semester freshman and my professor recently helped me out getting set up with a small gig for a few community centers. I’ve been taking photos for at least 4 years and “professionally” for about 1.5 // Ive done anywhere from senior photos to small car meets.

My question is,,, the center hiring me for this is >asking my rate< I will have 3 locations, around 15-20 mins at each, with photo stills as well as short videos for social media. So how much should I be charging for something like this? It’s my first time doing something I guess you could consider more professional, but I normally just charge around $50-100 for a shoot depending on the type.

All advice is appreciated, pls be kind😁

It depends on -

Can you do the 3 shoots all at once?

Whats the travel like?

How many photos, editing expectations and also video expectations?

It sounds like at least an hour of actual shooting and probably at least 1h of travel so is fairly involved.

I would consider also the fact you professor is asking for help and that these are community centres (so may have more limited budgets).

Its very much at your discretion but it may be worth weighing up factors like will your professor give you some industry contacts, more work etc if you help him out.

If you want some actual money talk, at a minimum I would probably charge at least 300usd for this! But I would and have done more charitable style rates in the past for clients (I normally stipulate conditions that they must always credit me for anytime an image or video is used so its not a one way deal, if they pay full price they dont have too).
