Beautiful. Wish it had hour markers though.
Watches
A community for watch & horology discussion.
I'm honestly so glad it doesn't! To me this isn't supposed to be that practical - plus I'm used to reading a clock without hour markers
I actually wish for a better movement and open caseback. I’m quite particular about those for what I want but damn, the dial is so cool that it’s really not a big deal not to have those things for me.
Might consider this in the near future.
An extraordinary new moonphase watch from Christopher Ward. With a one-of-a-kind aventurine dial that resembles the sparkling night sky. And a luminous, 3D moon 25 percent bigger than on our previous moonphase – and even more accurate in appearance. With power courtesy of Calibre JJ04, our ingenious in-house module that not only follows the movements of the moon perpetually for 128 years but looks beautiful while doing so. Plus, a box-sapphire crystal for improved clarity and a new, 40.5mm Light-catcher™ case that’ll sit comfortably on any wrist.
The moonphase is powered by CW’s own modular movement, JJ04, which is able to follow the waxing (and waning) of the moon accurately for 128 years. This also allows the watch’s ‘moons’ to chart a continuous, uninterrupted journey across the dial.
This is copied text from Christopher Ward for characters limit. Enjoy :)
don't know alot about christopher ward. but gosh darnit this is a beauty!! does the moon go through phases?
Yes, using the crown
This is looking like a total home run! Moser endeavour perpetual moonphase on a budget
If I didn't know the prices and based on looks alone, I'd take the CW over the Moser any day of the week. The textured moon on the CW looks much better to me, and Moser cheaped out on the moon's backing, which makes it look really odd without the second adventurine layer.
Oh yeah, I’ve just had a Google of the Moser, that plain backing is quite jarring vs. the rest of the dial. Odd.
What are the CW watches like (outside of aesthetics)? I see them advertised a lot in the UK right now, but not sure what their overall build and quality is like.
If it's half decent, this may be a winner.
Their old moonglow looked great in pics then cheap in person. The aventurine should help avoid that.
Though I would have welcomed some subtle indices. This gives me Movado vibes.
Very nice if moon phases are yon thing, hope you enjoy wearing it in good health for many decades to come.
$2475 on the bracelet and $2350 on the strap. Nice aventurine dial and no horrendous logo to ruin it. Not bad! A pretty cool Arnold and Son alternative
What's with you people and that logo. It's arguably one of the better ones in this whole industry.
Someone mentioned Minecraft on here once and - although I've never played it - I do see it everytime I see the logo now.
I do agree though, it really isn't that bad at all.
Beautiful. I can’t stand the name but Christopher Ward is putting out some banging pieces lately.
It makes me think "Christoper Robin"
Because Burt WARD was Robin
And he was Batmans ward
word
Fucking spectacular.
Absolutely spectacular.
I'm saving my money for a particular speedy but this tempts me.
Christopher ward is becoming a front line watchmaker.
They certainly have become the front line advertiser in this subreddit.
It’s hard to say that without sounding a bit bitter, but you’re absolutely right. Watches are released almost every day, but most aren’t posted on this sub with the website text copy and pasted like we see here in with almost all CW releases.
I personally don’t care much if this is the case. I just hope people browse this sub knowing the fact that it’s used heavily for advertising.
They get a lot of hate for their logo, but they’re doing more interesting things than the vast majority of watch companies in their price range.
Thankfully the logo is only on the crown here
Are they though? Other than this watch/the moonglow and the Bel Canto (which I have on order, so I am not a CW "hater"), I have always felt that the brand plays things pretty safe. I've heard them referred to as "premium vanilla". Good quality, good prices, but nothing else they put out really excites me. Even the popular Twelve feels like the latest watch to jump on the integrated bracelet hype train.
Looks like a front line Moser rip off.
Nah, the resemblance is only superficial, on a static picture. On the Moser the moon "phase" is just a simple round flap that covers image. On the C1 moonphase the moon actually moves across the dial.
And looking more closely at the dial, the Christopher Ward looks 10x better than the Moser, for 1/10th of the price:
I would very happily buy that... I would love a Moser but will never (realistically) be willing to afford one. For less than 10% of the price I may have to go for it.
If CW could do Ressence next, I would not be angry...
Still missing their original moon phase with the hammered silver disc.
I'm seriously tempted, I've always wanted a watch with an aventurine dial.
How do CW watches keep their value? If not well, I'd probably look at this pre-owned.
I love this for a dress watch. I get that legibility is probably not on par with other watches, and the omission of a logo and date etc may put some off, but looking at this as purely a piece of jewellery, wow, beautiful.
Finally! Not that ugly ass hour hand anymore
Looks like a sugess
Okay hear me out. Christopher Ward is here to stay. They are no more that interesting British micro brand with horrible name and logo. They are a great independent watchmaker that puts out extremely interesting designs at very competitive price points. The strategy of modifying Sellita movements and not having a distribution network is paying off big time. They are way more agile than any of the big watchmakers out there. They introduce unique and interesting watches at such a rapid speed. They take no hostages.
Whereas big watchmakers take around 12-24 months to release different size variations of their popular models, CW does it in just mere months (look at Longines Spirit vs. CW Twelve). CW doesn't YET have the brand reputation but also not the baggage to stay in certain dedicated niche. They are free to experiment on whatever they want.
Within last 12 months or so CW has released: Bell canto, Bell canto's new colors, Twelve in 40mm , Twelve in 37mm, Twelve Halo, new C63 Sealander and Sealander GMT colors, and now this C1 Moonphase! They've ventured into totally new movements, into different materials in titanium, aventurine and rose gold, they've taken really bold design choices by taking out indeces, by taking out the logo, by blastering the whole dial with textured logo pattern... IT'S WILD AND I'M LOVING IT!!!!
They earned my respect. They haven't yet earned my money as nowadays I'm super selective with my watch purchases and I avoid impulse purchases by all costs, and they simply haven't released anything that is 100% up my alley. I have no issues with their logo, their resale practice, their designs, their prices, or anything tbh. I'm sure they'll only keep growing from here.
Not for me but it’s interesting. I like what CW has been cooking lately
41 mm dress watch? No thanks
What the fuck? I was so proud of my Sugess .. that's totally on another level of beauty
Might be in the minority here but without the markers i feel they should just remove the hands and it be completely a moonphase, that's what you're really paying for anyways. I still really like the design and look of the watch but without the markers it's not for me
I love Christopher Ward, but this gives me Aliexpress vibes. It’s a pass for me.
God I’m a sucker for a clean simple watch. Anyone wanna buy my kidney?
I like Christopher Ward watches and although some are turned off that they’re made by Fossil it doesn’t really turn me away, they’re still good quality watches. This moon phase isn’t really my style but I can appreciate it for being a nice statement piece.
😍
Now when they do this in gold with the level 2 vantablack call me.
I pray that this fits my wrist. Wouldn’t complain if they release a slightly smaller version but this might still work.
What's the time? I don't know, but I can tell you the current phase of the moon if you're interested.
