It's as though Trump think's he's the first person in history to realise that canada has some nice things.

If you have a $200b trade deficit you can just take over that country and then there's no deficit.

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 4 points 20 hours ago

There is no trade deficit. If you spend $200 at a grocery store, you do not have a trade deficit with that store. The US is free NOT TO BUY CANADA’S SHIT. Oh right the US are avaricious consumers who can’t live without their fucking brands and cheap Walmart garbage. They can’t go one second without.

The solution is easy. Canada is already bigger than the USA, so the US should join Canada.

To all Canadians, us sane Americans would rather you prefer as you are. This is a concrete example of a "president" that just thinks the way to "lead" is by writing as many executive orders as possible and pressuring other countries to meet ridiculous demands by initiating trade wars and threatening them.

A complete bully.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 19 points 1 day ago (6 children)

I know that many Americans don't like this either. But Canada is unable to defend itself against the US military without serious help. And I don't completely trust that a US population that couldn't be bothered to vote against Trump would take any action to stop him if he were to give the order to invade.

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 5 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

Canada could never defend itself from the US military. Never. Canada could only do asymmetrical warfare and insurgency. But it would also never end. So the US would have to kill all 41 million of us to put a stop to us going FLQ 2 electric boogaloo on them until the end of time. Also we would poison pill all our resources as well. If we can’t have what’s rightfully ours, neither can the fucking USA. Scorched earth.

They aren't fighting to save their own democracy. They won't fight to save ours.

He's not a bully.

He's a fascist.

You guys need to get serious about saying, that real fast.

America has a fascist government, and Americans need to figure out how to do something about that.

It took Hitler less than a hundred days to go from elected to dictator. And from there it took less than four years to invade Poland and start WW2.

[–] EaterOfLentils@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

Fascism is nothing more than the bully mentality writ large. He is a bully but a bully is no trivial thing. They're the absolute scum of humanity.

Has Canada considered adopting USA as a province? USA seems like it needs help.

[–] shawn1122@lemm.ee 5 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (1 children)

Americans are some of the most politically divided people on the planet in a country that's basically a few corporations in a trenchcoat with limited to no social safety nets and crumbling infrastructure.

Why on earth would Canada want that? America may be the richest nation on earth but you don't see that when you drive down an ordinary American street. All that money is sitting in the coffers of a handful of billionaires and corporations.

Hard pass.

To our Canadian friends, I'm really sorry about all this nonsense. I love Canada just the way it is. Can't wait for my next trip up to Toronto or Montreal. Always a good time. I'm a little worried that I might not get a warm welcome on the next trip though.

I wonder how many people know you can download for free or purchase the files for 3D printed guns. The additional parts can be bought, legally, in discreet kits from easy to find online sellers - but many of those parts can be bought or modified from commercially available hardware. I wonder if people know that.

10 Provinces + 3 Territories = 1 single state's worth of representation.

GFY DT.

If it did happen, private insurance would decimate Canadian universal Healthcare almost instantly. That alone would lead to significant political unrest. American healthcare is by far the most dystopian among high income nations.

[–] CircaV@lemmy.ca 3 points 21 hours ago

Please we’d be a territory and our people completely subjugated. The US won’t hand over political power after violently annexing a sovereign country.
