“I …just don’t like him.”

Is, after MANY years of asking/probing, the ONLY honest answer I’ve ever gotten. …ever.

Had it a few times too. After reducing arguments down patiently.

Ultimately, these people who hate him vote like a high-school popularity contest, in stead of thinking with their lonely 2 remaining brain-cells.

Either that or they are simply insulted that someone could know more about something than their snapshot opinion. They take offense to realizing they are just ignorant. So they lash out.

That’s my assessment after looong, mostly civil conversations.

Everything people blame him for is basically what you would get from an average leader of the liberal party.

I can tell you why, and it has nothing to do with Liberals.

People who fly "fuck Trudeau" flags are pissed off by their shit life and blame everything they encounter daily,on the Federal government: cost of living, healthcare, traffic, education, housing, etc.

But they don't realize that the federal government has little to nothing to do with those. Those are the responsibility of the provincial and municipal governments who.... wait for it.... are under conservative leadership that those fuck Trudeau people voted for.

Anyone who's pissed with Trudeau, but lives in Ontario should stop voting for Fraud Ford. And stop voting for conservative municipal leadership, too.

As an outsider, Trudeau seemed pretty great. No Bernie or AOC, but still pretty great.

Russian bots and he got blamed for things that are happening all over the world. Trudeau created the CCB which is transformational and he gave land back to the Haida Gwaii. Both comendable.

But yeah I am not saying he was perfect, - he fucked up a lot too. Nothing on housing prices, abandoned electoral reform.

Around here, it's because they really hate what his dad did with the national energy program 45 years ago to solve the oil crisis of the late 70s. God forbid that Alberta be allowed to absolutely fleece the rest of the country with high oil prices.

They see too much Pierre in Justin and as a result are highly critical of everything he did, especially when it came to tough decisions that have lasting consequences.

I think some people just think he looks a little too non masculine while obviously being attractive, some people really hate that.

I'm upset that this man is attractive and doesn't have a square jawline. This is obviously wokeism destroying the contemporary male beauty standard!

And now it's leading me down a strange path I don't like where Timothy Chalamet and Jason Momoa are both hotties in the same movie. We need to bring an end to this.

I was more of a Trudeau supporter than most, but yeah the broken central platform promises on electoral reform really stung. Some is definitely right wing indoctrination about giving Trudeau a negative image.

I thought he was a great guy, could speak strongly and plan smartly during CoVID and for other challenges. But aside from initiatives where the NDP pushed the Liberals over the finish line, Trudeau's government stopped short of really pushing for real change, more to kind of just holding things together with bandaid solutions. I think Carney has the experience and from his speeches the motivation to go further with longer lasting solutions.

Nearly every government around the world (left, right, or other) that was in power during COVID and especially the inflationary period that followed it is being voted out. Voters are myopic and make emotional choices.

Resigning is a power move because it may allow people to see the Carney government as untainted by that, and thus allow the LPC to continue to rule despite this global overturn of government. If voters are so super concerned about the economy (that year over year just magnifies the wealth disparity, but whatever) then having England's head banker in charge does sound like an angle they can sell.

SNC Lavalin, We charity scand, ethics violations, going back on his marquee promise of electoral reform and thereby salting the earth on the topic for a generation, weak response on foreign interference, Indigenous people's life expectancy going down instead of up during his tenure despite the tone of the party's messaging, inappropriate response to the Portapique shooting, their handling of protests and strike busting, there are more. A person doesn't need to dip very deep to find reasons to not like Trudeau and his tenure.

I think even Liberals have good reason to dislike Trudeau, for hanging on as long as he did when it was obvious he was polling as low as he was, leaving a leadership vacuum during a critical political transition to the South.

I think the people who 'hate' him seem irrational. Unfortunately, that small minority of people obscure what should be proper criticism of his policies and choices.

It's sad that we've come to expect Liberals to be corrupt and self-dealing, and seeing that expectation used as an excuse for their leaders is fucking depressing.

Exactly. He's a hypocrite, and drove a wedge through this country that won't heal for a long time.

• The man campaigned on the environment and then literally bought a pipeline to shield fossil fuel companies from financial risk.
• He later further subsidised the fossil fuel industry by sending the RCMP, armed like soldiers onto native land to evict people from their homes, literally hacking through their front doors with axes, all to clear the way for a pipeline.
• He wouldn't shut up about how progressive and welcoming Canada is, but the quotas for refugees from desperate countries remained tiny compared to other nations a fraction of our size.
• He lied about electoral reform, and when the working group returned with the answer he didn't like, threw out the whole process.
• During the pandemic he made a lot of (necessary) political decisions to limit freedoms, but refused to acknowledge the way those reforms affected affected Canadians differently. When the poorer classes reacted to these limits in massive popular protest, he labeled them racists and Nazis rather than acknowledging their plight and offering better support. He also made a lot of objectively idiotic decisions, like locking down the country while allowing international flights and blocking driving across the US border.
• He made a big song and dance about how Canada wouldn't sell arms to Israel due to their genocide campaign, then started shipping those arms to Israel via the US instead.
• Finally, on his way out the door, as one of his final acts as PM, he gets behind a mic and declares himself a Zionist.

All of this is about what he did. When a much longer list could be written about what he didn't do over a ten year term as the most powerful man in the country. He neglected critical portfolios like the environment, housing, infrastructure, and poverty while simultaneously devaluing the currency and allowing greedflation to balloon.

In other words, he did the classic Liberal thing of campaigning on what the country needs, and then doing the opposite or nothing at all.

As an expat, I'm glad to see the back of him. The man wrapped himself in the good reputation of my country and then sullied it. Canada is worse off now than it was in 2015 and zero progress has been made on the critical issues of our time.
