Registrations for 'mastodon.social' are often closed, but you can learn more about Mastodon and register with another instance at joinmastodon.org. It doesn't matter which instance you register on - you can still follow anyone on any instance.
If you are looking for service providers that can host and manage an instance for you:
You’re not going to get much help by posting your question in a completely unrelated thread.
Make a new top-level post and be sure to give good background information. On its own, your question doesn’t give people enough to go on. Include details like:
- the VPS provider
- instance size
- Mastodon version
- The exact wording of whatever error message you received.
- What you have tried so far.
When asking for help, you’ll get more and better help when you try to meet the helpers halfway. When you lob out a question like that without any useful context, many of the people who can help aren’t going to bother.
Remember we’re all a bunch of volunteers chatting here because we feel like it, not because this is anybody’s job.

Set up Yunohost and then use it to install mastodon. You can do most of the work in a GUI. Also Mastodon takes a good while to install on a smaller VPS so once it starts installing, give it awhile.
It depends what you were doing, and where you were doing it.
The short answer is that it's an connection error. The longer answer is that there's no way to know more than that without more information.
