Just as he did in the G league(sub-30% from three), Scoot continues to struggle mightily with his shot

New jalen green just dropped

[–] RayCashhhh@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Funnily enough, Green's G-league stats were better than Scoot's.

[–] TheRealDevDev@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

it's genuinely concerning how awful he looks. i can't think of a single redeeming quality on the basketball court that he's displayed in his first two games.

[–] soxfaninfinity@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Jalen Suggs is that dude on defense

[–] TB_016@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Very true. Scoot can't be having a great time going from Kawhi and PG to Suggs. Coming out the gate against some great defenders. It would also help if the Blazers ran an offense. Was baffled tonight watching them literally bring the ball down and not call a set of any kind.

I’m not rooting for him to fail but it somewhat amuses me he’s sucking ass right now after the ridiculous disrespect Miller got for MONTHS

[–] siphillis@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yet it makes perfect sense when you compare their ages and responsibilities. Miller is a polished player with a clearly defined secondary role. Scoot is a raw talent being asked to rebuild a franchise.

[–] Jarveesimo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

This is what I was just telling my buddies. Scoot is about his potential to be a franchise player and those are some big shoes to fill. Scoot says all the right things and has a great attitude. Billups is the worst coach in the league, and has done not a single thing to help maximize his skill set. It’s two games in though, so let’s let this kid play some ball and learn on the fly. We got a couple years of being bad to look forward to.

[–] UnhingedSupernova@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

They said he was gonna gun for ROTY lmfaooo

There's levels to this

[–] jackloganoliver@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The stats weren't great, but he did a lot of little things to get them back into the game.

[–] ChurroMemes@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He looked rough out there. He’ll improve with time but man idk if he’ll be able to overcome Chauncey’s awful coaching. No sets being run, nothing. Scoots supposed to be a playmaker, but the way our offense is being run, which is just random, has him finding himself driving to the rim with no one else in sight. Nobody moves and it’s bullshit. Chauncey has zero clue what he’s doing and you have to wonder if it’ll affect Scoots development in the future.

[–] bromonium@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Homie is lookin rough, will take him a minute to figure it out. He is trying to play super fast, without any real plan. Also don’t think he’s used to NBA athletes on the defensive end. I ain’t worried, but it would be nice if Chauncey actually ran some plays for him to get him some confidence rather than let him just get stuffed. Showed some defensive flashes I thought. We’re a long ways away.

[–] toadtruck@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

His shot is actually the least of my worries. It looks mechanically solid. He can’t get to the rim right now and that was supposed to be his thing

[–] Jnbjgjbb@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He looks lost out there

[–] KYRIE542@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Lol y’all were clowning on Miller and bro has been far better than Scoot.

[–] Proper_Hurry_362@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's hard to find anyone that's been worse than Scoot, honestly.

[–] siphillis@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Amen Thompson has been absolutely awful.

[–] butekoo@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

MITCH KUPCHAK WAS RIGHT

[–] cyborgbear@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

ffs after all the dame drama we can't even be a quiet tanking team we need daily threads on ayton and scoot lmao

Quiet tanking kind of went out of the window when you did all of the damn talking y'all did over the summer

[–] t-homas@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

a lot of these were missed layups too

[–] IsaacDPOYFultzMIP@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Suggs had him in jail

[–] bluehead18@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He will probably come good at some point, but the way this sub was talking crazy about brandon miller was absolutely insane. One thing for certain is that Scoot is not the same level of special athletic as Rose,Ja or Westbrook. His athleticism reminds me more of Kawhi if he was a 6'2 guard.

[–] siphillis@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Scoot has far better hops than Kawhi. His explosiveness is pretty comparable to Lonnie Walker.

[–] VagabondReborn@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Brandon Miller was crucified all summer for a couple of bad summer league games but not a peep about Scoot looking like a glorified Emmanuel Mudiay so far

[–] RayCashhhh@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He needs to work on his finishing angles, he times his jumps weird attacking the basket, leading to missed bunnies. I'm sure he won't be that bad moving forward, but for someone who was as hyped as he was, his finishing leaves a lot to be desired. I do think he played good D on Paolo down the stretch, and he had some nice passes, but he struggled with finishing and got ripped quite a few times.

I'm definitely one of those not on the hype train at all, but I will say he hopefully won't be this bad. Definitely makes those shitting on Miller look foolish tho.

[–] PumpkinHead555@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He has been terrible and if this was Brandon Miller, it would be at the top of the sub

[–] ripcity_pilgrim@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I just watched this game.

You get Scoot 3rd over all, you get Deandre Ayton as a reclamation project type from PHX.

Maybe try running a fucking pick and roll with them?

There's no half court sets at all. The offence is stagnant and unimaginative.

Scoot obviously hasn't played well, but all the buzz in pre season about playing fast and moving the ball to maximise his strengths but there's been nothing of the sort.

Yeah why the heck is Ayton getting so few shots less first 2 games? I know he came to the team very late, but it shouldn't be that hard to just feed him the rock.

[–] PressureMiserable@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

A major part of the team not playing well together is also this team just formed right before training camp. Every team except them had months of preparation and practice, learning each others weaknesses but the blazers didn't have that luxury. I was really confused when anyone didn't put them as a lock for the 15th seed considering how long it usually takes young teams to play well

[–] hostileclowns@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Chauncey billups still makes no sense to me being a HC lol.

[–] nikop@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He's a star. He just is. He just has IT.

That was pretty much the Scoot analysis over the summer.

[–] Highfly0@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It’s pretty clear based off early results that the g league isn’t even as competitive as college and scoot was below avg in efficiency in the g league. I have no idea what the hell portland was thinking.

[–] Frankiedrunkie@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Nah he was just locked up in the Suggitentiary

[–] butterflyhole@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I thought he’d be better this year but he’s 19 🤷🏻‍♂️

[–] ArrayMichael7@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He really doesn’t look like the athlete as advertised. I expected struggles but I don’t see the Westbrook rim pressure or Rose vertical bounce he was hyped on. So many missed bunnies bc of lack of size/lift

[–] larrylegend1990@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

He has long arms but not crazy athleticism

Also, why the heck is Ayton getting so few shots less first 2 games? I know he came to the team very late, but it shouldn't be that hard to just feed him the rock.

[–] mrwhite2323@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Tbf he was goikg against Suggs who will be all defensive team

[–] mrberners@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It's only been two games, so it is still early. But it is difficult not to be alarmed by what we're watching. He looks so bad it is borderline unprecedented. And even worse -- Scoot was supposed to be "the most NBA ready" of any player in the draft.

Even if Scoot improves 50% by the end of the season this will still be an unmitigated disaster. Scoot may end up as a cautionary tale. There have been warnings that going from h.s. to g league does not provide that structure young players need to properly develop And if Cronin chased a first ballot Hall of Famer out of town for this, he will never work in basketball again.

[–] GlueGuy00@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Blazers really chose Bledsoe 2.0 over Dame lmaooo

[–] pnoisebored@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

"i aint here trying to win with scoot henderson"

[–] shazam482@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It's his second nba game. Give the kid a break, let him find his rhythm

[–] Life_Ad_9518@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Watching Scoot in the G league , he would often get cut off on his drives. There was a lot of talk in the nba draft sub that he's more of a Bledsoe level athlete; and that was often a median outcome ascribed to him.. Baron Davis ceiling, Bledsoe median-ish outcome.. If the Hornets thought he would be in Ja Morant's ballpark, they would have drafted him

[–] Death________@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I was told scoot was going to have generational athleticism and quickness that was going to make him better than other blue chip prospects in his age range

[–] paddiction@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Blazers really picked this guy over Dame
