A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.

I’ve just been tasked with being the photographer for a family portrait that takes place in about 2 hours. Borrowed a Sony a6000 from someone who doesn’t know anything about photography either, so they were of no help besides providing the camera . Photoshoot is outside with about 25 people. Weather is sunny.

Seeing as I know nothing about photography, my plan was to set to some sort of auto mode and let the camera do what I don’t know how to.

Looking for any suggestions on camera settings to increase my odds of producing useable photos.

set it on auto everything and use a tripod. that camera should give you excellent exposure and focus on its own. pose the group in the shade, and take more than one photo.

edit: i'm late to the party. the dudes gave great advice.

If you know nothing about photography, use your cell phone.
