A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.

Hi!
I'm a Sony a6100s user and I need a help with choosing my next lens. Currently I rock my Sigma 30mm for APS-C, but I came to the conclusion that I need a quality zoom lens for different purposes - product, event, concert photography etc. Whereas Im going to upgrade to Sony a7iii or a7iv in the near future (let's say about March) I was considering Tamron 28-75, because I could use it on my current APS-C camera as well as on the future Full frame.

Nevertheless Im torn between choosing the upper option or picking up some 18-105 f/4 designed for my current sensor and then selling it with my a6100, but Im not sure if its reasonable to buy a lens only for couple months.

Maybe I'd better invest in other zoom lens? My budget is up to 1000$.

Any help is welcome. Cheers!

If you're absolutely certain you will buy an a7-series camera, you might as well get a compatible lens now. The Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 G2 is an excellent option, as is the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8.

But if you still haven't made up your mind entirely, then perhaps it's better to get a lens that will be more useful for you now. Buy one used, so that reselling it later isn't as painful. Consider the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 and Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8.
