A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.

This guy barrowed me his SD card and I of course lost it like an idiot so I was just gonna give him one of mine and not say anything but the issue is mine are all named after cheeses when you plug them in and I don't remember what their supposed to be called with like factory settings

Yeah it is, lying to your friend is not good practice

I think when you rename them you are overwriting the actual partition name. So the original factory name was gone unless you made like an image before renaming or had the original image used to preformat they at the factory.

What brand? If it's a SanDisk I just bought a new one and can check when I am home.

You should tell them though. Just let them know when you give them the replacement card. If your card has seen more wear or is significantly older than their card though I would think you owe them a new one.

Do you mean reformatting? If you plug it into a computer or a camera there should be an option to reformat and that will likely wipe out the cheese name lmao.

Dude buy a new one and tell him, plain and simple.

[–] ibthx1138@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Just buy him a new one. Enough said.

Give him one of the cheese ones. I've found that people enjoy a good smoked gouda.

No need to correct grammar to your local ideas. Live and let live.

You're not helpful.

Do a low level format in camera.

[–] fuzzfeatures@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

No. A low level format isn't possible these days without specific software. Just a regular quick format or full format would do the job.

You lost his, buy him a new one.

They’re all named “ILostYourSDcard”

Damn a lot of you guys are upset lol. I should clarify some things: The guy who lent me the card already wiped it and I ended up just formatting the card and that changed the name to the default settings and gave him that one. At my college this year the department decided to give everyone two 32 gigabit sd cards that all are identical and so I don't really see a problem replacing his with mine since neither of us actually bought ours and they are the exact same. If anything the one I replaced was probably newer since it's one I never use. Just to clarify though, I know the right thing would have been to tell him and buy him a new card but I just thought no harm no foul. I will not be borrowing any more SD cards again and we both will probably never see each other again after this class so like no problem lol. He took it and used it today and literally nothing has changed, some of you are acting like I lost this guy's baby 😭😂

[–] CthulhusSon@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Never mind what the default settings are, say these words while handing your friend a brand new card "I'm sorry, I lost your card, here's a new one to replace it". You may lose some cash but you'll gain respect.

[–] Ranma2061@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

We literally don't know each other and I would have probably lost respect for losing it in the first place even if I replaced it. I don't think I ever intend on talking to this guy again since we honestly seem like very different people and this was just like me asking if anyone had a pencil I could borrow.
