I’ve wanted a set of LCD-X for a number of years now and finally saved up enough to get my hands on a pair.

They’re my first serious headphone so I don’t really have a point of reference to other offerings on the market, but they’re just as enjoyable to listen to as my Neumann KH120 which is saying something.

They feel beautiful in the hands, and despite my concerns over weight, they’re incredibly comfortable to wear. The distribution of the weight works wonders.

I’ve paired them up with a SubPac for tactile bass, and it’s mind-blowing how enveloping the sound is when they’re both dialled in.

I still have mixed feelings on the Oratory preset, but the more I listen, the more my ears adjust.

Hell yeah! Mine come in tonight and I'm super pumped about it. Going from the HD 598, and excited to see the differences. Enjoy sire

Please update us on your experience. I'd love to hear someone's take coming from my exact headphones.

Happy days! Let me know how they treat you, would be very interested to hear your opinion.

Check out: Headflux - Vitriol

It’s not my taste in music usually, but on the LCD-X it sounds absolutely wild if you want to hear something a bit weird.

the white neumanns 🤤

[–] dylanp2567@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

They look nice! Been looking to get new headphones. This might be an option 😂

[–] rextilleon@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Congrats---Hope you get many hours of great listening with them!~!

[–] Blue-Bird780@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Not your first pair of serious output devices though judging by those near-field monitors 👀…. Neuman?

[–] SpyRou_@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

How long periods at a time you keep the on?

Im worried about the weight too.

[–] ThirdWorldOrder@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The weight is over exaggerated. While they are hefty, they are very comfortable. You're more likely to be uncomfortable from the clamping force of many other cans out there. If you're considering them, just realize you can't jog with them and you'll be fine.

[–] Mockbubbles2628@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I'll last about 2 hours before I start to feel the weight

[–] spencefunk@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You'll get used to the weight. I upgraded to my X's years ago when my Sundara's broke, and you could definitely feel the weight after a few hours. After a week or two, you won't notice it at all if you use them as daily drivers, and they're honestly incredibly comfortable with a few mods.

[–] SpyRou_@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That is very assuring to hear. What mods would you suggest? Im bald if that matters regarding the headband area and not that big of a melon.

[–] Crinkez@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Try Peace equalizer and use the auto-EQ to import the oratory1990 settings.

I'm not sure what Oratory settings you're using but with Peace auto-EQ it does not sound weird.

[–] testurshit@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Aw yiss.

You got a good one, this headphone pretty much cured my upgradeitis.

[–] oshimanagisa@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is Apple Music promoting Mike in the background there? If so, dope.

[–] Joseph_Savage_@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

This is Qobuz, I’m not familiar with Mike!

[–] Kingstoler@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Enjoy! I love them with a bass shelf.

[–] Mockbubbles2628@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

200Hz +30DB shelf if you want to melt your brain (and probably the drivers)

[–] OMGZAPPY@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I hated them when I got them no eq for 1 week. I almost return them until I eq them and then fell in love with the music. I always wonder what’s the next big step up after these headphones.

[–] Joseph_Savage_@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I had a bit of a rocky start with them too - although after some tweaking things are better than I’ve ever heard on a set of headphones.

I’m still dialling in my perfect eq, but I have no doubts that these headphones are keepers.

There are few direct upgrades after the lcd-x. From my experience, there's the he1000se, lcd-5 or susvara. Everything else is more of a side grade but for me, I've just found a great pair to complement my lcd-x, the heddphones v1. They have super fast treble extended, even more detail than the lcd x but only average subbass extension. The lcd-x on the other hand are still very detailed, but have huge slamming sub bass for the wub wubs.

[–] Ihavealineamicra@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

How do you “eq” headphones?

[–] Mockbubbles2628@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I got the LCD-X about 6 months ago now, probably the best purchase I've ever made, they leave pretty much nothing to be desired. I use SMSL SP200 and SU-9 for my PC, peace EQ set for harman target

The weight is not an issue unless I have them on for more than a couple hours, which is very rare and at that point I should probably take a break..

[–] R0enick27@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Great, welcome to the club. Now enjoy the EQing rabbit hole!

[–] Kingofsoysauce@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Somehow I mixed this one with hifiman cans.

[–] Thumper_777@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Congratulations dude. Very nice headphone!

[–] dushvcgksuhd@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

You look like a thin guy. You might get chronic neck pain later if you wear them many hours a day. Your neck doesnt know how comfy they are, only the massive weight.

[–] judgenut@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I got mine earlier this year and I have loved using them since. I hope you get as much pleasure from these amazing headphones as I do!

[–] Panda_red_Sky@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] dutchie1966@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

While they are a bit heavy I find them comfortable to wear for 2-3 hours at a time.

A must is the right earpads, either original or Delkin. I tried a cheap pair from China/AliExpress, and those were horrendous.

[–] casper_wolf@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Congrats. Fine choice

I found Oratory's EQ quite a bit too hot in the upper mids. I'm fine with his profiles for most of my other headphones, so I think this may come down to unit variance, Audeze can't make the same headphone twice and the FR for samples is all over the place. So it's hard to EQ from third party measurements.

I was using various variations of Oratory's EQ that brought down the upper mid bump quite a bit:

Preamp: -9.5 dB
Filter 1: ON LSC Fc 26 Hz Gain 3.5 dB Q 0.71
Filter 2: ON LSC Fc 105 Hz Gain 5.5 dB Q 0.71
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 240 Hz Gain -0.6 dB Q 1.4
Filter 4: ON PK Fc 540 Hz Gain 0.8 dB Q 1.4
Filter 5: ON PK Fc 760 Hz Gain -1.1 dB Q 2.5
Filter 6: ON HSC Fc 1800 Hz Gain 5 dB Q 0.71
Filter 7: ON PK Fc 2670 Hz Gain -2.9 dB Q 2.7
Filter 8: ON PK Fc 3850 Hz Gain 2 dB Q 1.4
Filter 9: ON PK Fc 5650 Hz Gain -5.2 dB Q 3.5
Filter 10: ON HSC Fc 9000 Hz Gain -3.5 dB Q 0.71

This is a minimal EQ alternative that just ups the bass and fixes up the mids recess a bit without major changes, this is what I use most these days. It's a headphone that absolutely needs EQ to sound right/good but particularly with the sample variance if you don't have your own measuring rig a lighter touch may be worth trying. If you are doing detailed EQ your sample has to be very close to Oratory's sample and I don't think that is reliable with Audeze. I do have an IEM measuring rig, and a Euclid, and it's way off other people's measurements (which are also all way off each other).

Preamp: -3.5 dB
Filter 1: ON LSC Fc 105 Hz Gain 5.5 dB Q 0.71
Filter 2: ON LSC Fc 300 Hz Gain -2 dB Q 0.71
Filter 5: ON PK Fc 3800 Hz Gain 3.5 dB Q 1.5
[–] claviro888@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I just got the XC. Which EQ do you find sounds best?

[–] IAmAgainst@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I loved their punch and slam but the loose grip made them too uncomfortable for me. That and the fact that everything above the bass was like covered by a dark fog.

I don't exclude buying them again for the times I'm in the mood for something like that but the Arya stealth are on a whole new level on every other aspect besides punch.

[–] Juan-punch_man@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This is a bit out of topic but how would you compare the LCD X to the KH120?

I’m in the market for headphones or speakers at around that price range and I can’t decide which would suit my soundstage preferences better. I’m in love with the enveloping effect of headphones but I also like the scale and expansiveness of speakers.

[–] Joseph_Savage_@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I think the differences are exactly as you describe. The LCD X have a more enveloping sound, but the soundstage is better on the Neumann.

The bass on the LCD seem to have more sub and extension - so that may sway your choice.

I would say if you can only pickup one, I’d probably recommend going for a set of headphones.

[–] pkelly500@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Damn fine choice!

[–] spencefunk@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Good choice man, although I guess I'm biased lol. Once I got these, I felt like there's no reason to upgrade anymore. Amazed everyday with how great they sound, no matter the media being played. I wear mine for over 12 hours a day as daily drivers, the weight bothered me at first but now I don't even notice it. You'll get a neck of steel in a few weeks.

I've had my X's for almost 3 years now, and I highly, highly recommend getting a ZMF Pilot Pad to wrap around the metal headband above the leather Audeze strap. Those Audeze headband straps stretch out really quick, and you're gonna hate having to replace them all the time. Looks kinda goofy, but it really improves the comfort, and you'll never have to replace the strap again.

Once the ear pads wear out, the Dekoni Choice Leather pads are a great product for the money, super comfy and keeps that low end. I've experimented with a few Dekoni pads and they're definitely my favorite.

If you need any Peace EQs, feel free to DM and I can send you what I have if you want experiment some more. I tend to like Bassy Rap/Electronic/R&B, so I've got a few nice presets.

Welcome to the club!
