Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

So, a thought-crime?

[–] Phoenicianpirate@lemm.ee 16 points 6 days ago (1 children)

They deported people in the past for leftist beliefs and also had their citizenship stripped from them for such...

[–] ReiRose@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Id love examples. I'm naturalized leftie so I want to read up on this.

I also believe pretty much the same thing as Mahmoud Khalil so I have my go bag ready.

neither of these people were denaturalized for having leftist beliefs.

"Officially" maybe not, but Goldman was denaturalized like a decade after she should've been because the government wanted a reason to deport her and they couldn't while she was a US citizen. So they made her denaturalization retroactive. Steimer was denaturalized and deported for the "crime" of printing and distributing anti-war leaflets.

Where the fuck are the, "Mah rights!" people now that the government is actually trampling on the constitution?

[–] Melvin_Ferd@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Right, why won't the Republicans do something!!!

Not sure what else we can do

[–] TheDoozer@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

You're focusing too much on the "rights" and not enough on the "Mah." Not "Our rights."

It was never about universal rights. They were pretty clear about them caring specifically and only about their rights.

Deep-throating government boot-leather to clean off any leftover shreds and debris from said trampling.

It's called thought crime.

The two-page memo, which was obtained by the Associated Press, does not allege any criminal conduct by Khalil, a legal permanent US resident and graduate student who served as spokesperson for campus activists last year during large demonstrations against Israel’s treatment of Palestinians and the war in Gaza. Rather, Rubio wrote Khalil could be expelled for his beliefs. He said that while Khalil’s activities were “otherwise lawful”, letting him remain in the country would undermine “US policy to combat antisemitism around the world and in the United States, in addition to efforts to protect Jewish students from harassment and violence in the United States”.

The Thought Police have officially arrived and been christened in their duties... 🙄 🤡 🖕 🖕

I'm pretty sure the 1st amendment nullifies this argument.

Punishing us for our thoughts is clearly established as the job of the church. This is a violation of separation of church and state.

[–] MisanthropiCynic@lemm.ee 15 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Exactly. They’re using religious bias.

But it’s why my state can’t sell alcohol on Sunday and why people ban abortions and why they’re pushing prayer in school

They want to make the US a christian version of Iran

We have a few good Iranian restaurants.

Free speech rights only apply to corporations.

[–] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 days ago

"we're pleased to announce that we have created the corporations from 'Please Don't Create These Netrunner Corporations'."
