I’ve been using ANC types (AirPods Pro and XM3) for years and I thought they were really good. Spent a week on reviews and decided the weight and comfort is really important to me, I get neck aches from desk work so the lightweight design sold me. And Dan Clark seems like a good guy running a legit small business, in his videos.

I love how I can hear the subtle details in vocals I couldn’t before. Like saliva, throat and breath sounds. Feels more real and human. Let’s see if I still get goosebumps after this honeymoon period.

Is FiiO K7 good enough for it? I have to turn the amp vol to 80 for it to sound satisfying. Is this usual or a sign of a weak amp?

Haha I thought so too until I saw the headband and was like nah. They're the Dan Clark Ether 2 apparently and they look very sexy from the pictures I've seen online.

I don't know these headphones by side-profile, what are they?

Do you have the K7 on high gain? It's not a weak amp, though the Dan Clark stuff is generally hard to drive.

[–] NormalUpstandingGuy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Have you increased the gain?

[–] WetSneksss@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I honestly don’t know what the high gain feature is for. Makes things sound rough.

[–] NormalUpstandingGuy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Gain just increases the input signal to the preamp.

What kind of headphones are we looking at?... OP? Not sure why you didn't include what they are sir or ma'am. But they look nice :D

Ether 2, DCA or Mr.Speakers

I got the Aeon Flow 1 Closed and was thoroughly impressed with the build quality and comfort. Utterly disappointed in the sound. It was a weird thing where the sound was obviously accurate but infuriatingly lifeless. Like being at a house show where the beat never drops or the crescendo never soars.

Rarely ever see ethers (especially ether 2s) around

[–] pleiop@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This is my set up. It sounds fine to me regarding the power.

op you not slick for giving me flashbacks with what you are listening

[–] WetSneksss@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I hope it’s good 4k porn!

[–] GratuitousAlgorithm@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Its deliberate. K7 is designed like that, to be used in the area after 12 o'clock.

[–] WetSneksss@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Good to know!

[–] boi_got_nochill@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Fellow "let you down" enjoyer.

[–] Krypto_98@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The k7 has a non-linear volume knob so you have to really turn it to get volume,

[–] WetSneksss@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Ah that’s why. Thanks. Kinda makes the first half useless.

[–] liukasteneste28@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

New dac and amp would for sure be an upgrade.

I know they are easy to drive but they are so detailed that amp and dac upgrade is worth it.

Mojo 2 is amazing dac amp.

[–] AMLRoss@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I went from iphone to android and got myself some nice new iems this month.

[–] Kraken-Tortoise@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I felt the same way when I got my Sundara's. Hearing the micro detail like saliva and trailing notes was something. When I actually moved away from onboard DAC to a straight alone DAC to combine with my existing amp, it was even more clearer and I was hearing more from songs I've listened to 1000x before.

Didn't think there would be that much of a difference between the processing on my motherboard considering its high end, but Marina's voice has never sounded better. I know the feeling, enjoy it mate.

More iPhones to skip!

[–] Joseph_Savage_@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I rationalized my LCD X with the exact same mentality. Boy math if I’ve ever seen it 🤣

[–] WetSneksss@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

LOL boy math 100%

[–] stewie_91@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Nice one. I got the same Fiio amp.

[–] stewie_91@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Nice one. I got the same Fiio amp.

[–] WetSneksss@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

How’s it for you?

[–] Jon-Einari@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah, hifi headphones are awesome. I have never had these, but figured I'd try some. Instantly hooked on the clear sound and I wanted to buy some. Bought 2 sets, openbacks and closed backs for a reasonable price, because I also want to start making music and mixing it.

To be fair the flat frequency response of studio headphones and hifi headphones is good, you can just drop any eq over it and they will sound anazing for listening to music. You can get really good hifi and studio headphones for a cheap price, compared to things like airpods or in ears they sound night and day, almost like speaker compared to phone speakers.

Skipping iphone 14 and 15 for headphones is honestly a good choice. They don't even have a headphone jack and cheap hifi headphones often only have 3.5mm aux out... Lol

[–] WetSneksss@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I may just have to depend on my iPhone 13 to not die so I can skip a few more iPhones to get more audio gear.

[–] Jon-Einari@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Or you can get yourself a cheap android phone, they might even be better lol

[–] WetSneksss@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I have test Android phones for work but I’d never use them personally due to their inferior security.

[–] Jon-Einari@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Tbh I don't care enough for security. I'd rather have a new feature than good security. Also it hasn't failed me yet, the security

[–] roshanpr@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I’m still skipping with my broke ass

[–] WetSneksss@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Keep on keeping on 💪🏻

Haha best marketing is the free kind you get when you make good stuff.

[–] akeep113@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

damn bro, you must be really struggling on that iphone 13. idk how you had the strength to not upgrade! you definitely deserve to treat yourself for those tough efforts

[–] Longjumping_Ad6321@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

let you down in the bg!!

[–] Snabbeltax@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Use iFi DAC's for the DCA. They can handle my Meze 109 Pro and Focal Radiance like a dream.

[–] Xawlet@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Nothing of value was lost.

[–] Gray_Scale711@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

As you should. What's life without music

[–] thecub14@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I stopped at 13 pro max as well, nothing major in any upgrade in my opinion as everything seems to have stalled a bit in tech.Even the new M3 chips as Apple kept on giving % against the m1 throughout their launch.I like you just treat myself to new headphones and I'm looking to get the R7 next

[–] DazzlingPanic2178@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Let me ask you this, do you want a mobile amp or a stationery amp ??

By what your asking, it's a mobile amp... Right now you are on the edge of a pricy rabbit hole called audiophiles; welcome. I highly suggest you do get it because that is going to be you entry point for comparison if you later want to try a different amp, which I recommend you do. Atm I have a hi res audio set up for my pc with dac and amp comb. With my pc speakers, been passive, been run by amp and my head phones also been hooked up to my amp, it's a little tedious but I love it.

[–] WetSneksss@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Thanks. I’m still a closet audiophile. 😂 I got the K7.

[–] feefondesk@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What are these headphones?
