Never saw them in person, but man, I wanted a pair as a kid. I wanted to roll around at the speed of sound.

They were big with the rollerblade community as it was a way to grind rails without rollerblades. I was in the skater / rollerblade clique in my HS and they were relatively popular. Since I had the coordination of a 2 legged cow I went for heelys. I was cool in my own mind at least...
Heelys will always be cool
as someone already said, if you can make a heelie soap combo shoe that would be cool
Nope. Never heard of them.
I only know about them because Sonic Adventure 2. And even then, I didnt know they were a thing till years later. Ive never seen them or heard of them in real life, though.
Allow me to introduce you to the best documentary you will ever watch, Soap or Die. self-funded by the world's last surviving 90s Guy and soap shoe fanatic. 20 minutes of pure joy.
Please tag as NSFL, I sprained my ankle by just looking at the picture.
something something I couldn't help myself on the train and then the others joined in
Now as an adult you can't afford using them because you will hurt yourself, badly ยฏ\_(ใ)_/ยฏ
exactly why I haven't
Every once in a while, as an out of shape guy in my 30s, I think about buying myself a pair of heelys.
Was never a skater, never really had much interest in them as a kid, but something about the idea of rolling around in Costco while I do my grocery shopping appeals to me.
My friends do that.
Live your dream, mate.
Be free~
I'm guessing the black parts slide like wax? For 'grinding' without a board?
That's the gimmick, saw them around the 90s skater culture and a bit after as I recall.
you can be a fruitbooter without the fruit
The only reason I know they exist is because Sonic Adventures 2 trivia videos. That, and I've seen them while playing SA2, but those are very hazy memories from when I was maybe 5-6 years old.
The official shoes of Sonic, at least during the Adventure era.
Only in adventure 2
Goes to show how well my memory works, I genuinely thought it was supposed to still be a thing in 1 but the official deal fell through until 2.
All memories works like this, its not your thing (literally i'm doing a uni work about memories right now)
Nah man Iโm good with my H E E L Y S
I'm the kid who got these and heely's banned at my school. Was quite the trend setter in elementary.
I still want a combo shoe of soap shoes + heelies. I think someone makes a kit to make your own heelies.
Heelys are still a thing, I wear mine too Costco.
Leave some women for the rest of us man. I can't compete with that.
He already took my wife. Watch out.
Lmao "where do I know that username"
Who's to say ยฏ\(ใ)/ยฏ
I also choose this person's wife

Vote now.
There used to be a company that sold grind plates you could add to your shoes but it looks like their website is defunct.
Combine these with heelies and parkour for maximum urban mobility.
As an orthopedic surgeon who wants a bigger yacht, I think this is a great idea
I will never kowtow to big ortho
i think you're onto something.
i liked these because I could jump way way way higher than i ever could on my skateboard
just go to the park and sprint at a bench/table and grind the entire length of the thing. things were fun as all hell for awhile. this was like... god... 1997?
it got old after awhile because while doing sick ass grinds was fun as hell, that was all you could really do. went back to skateboarding pretty quick.
One of my friends used to have a pair, apparently they were pretty fun for a while but wore out too quickly so he just kept skateboarding.
I had them! Hurt myself plenty...
Oh yes, I remember reading an article about them. They caused many severe injuries and I mean really many.
Always wanted one, and I never forget them because sonic adventure 2
The original soap shoes brand is defunct, but another brand, EPIC, still makes them
Immediately thought of Sonic Adventure 2 lol I've never met anyone who actually owned a pair (I don't think they ever made it to Europe but I might be wrong)
Heard aboutbem cause Sonic but never saw them irl. They seem like a bad idea and I skateboarded
my older brother owned a pair of these so obviously they were the shit.
but realistically if I got a pair now I would simply give myself broken bones and brain damage.
They are also called Grindshoes. I also never had one of these but I am also thinking about buying a pair.
Are you listening to The Adventure Zone, per chance?
