A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.

What trends are you a fan of or not a fan of? Personally, I'm hopeful that green toned grading will end sooner than later. I just don't think skin tones and wedding dresses should have a green cast. It makes people look sickly and I can see it looking dated over time.

Let's discuss trends!

Street photography. I'm not saying all of it is bad, but 95% of the pictures I've seen are not interesting in any way except "The person I photographed didn't notice it". I don't remember the last time I've seen a street photograph and thought "That's a great picture, I want to see more from the photographer"

In most cases it's skeevy as fuck too.

Like yeah yeah there's no expectation of privacy in a public space. That doesn't mean it's moral to use non-consenting strangers for your photography project.

I have a lot more respect for portrait artists because they actually treat their subjects like human beings rather than objects, and can actually say something about their subject with their photo because they know who their subject actually is.

A good street photography is so hard and most that I see are just straight up bad

AI skin retouching. It’s become so obvious and terrible lately when I see it. It gives everyone a uniform grainy texture and washed out facial features

Everyone’s engagement/couples/wedding/portrait images getting that under-saturated, underexposed, almost-sepia preset/recipe. We get it, you’re rustic. Start exposing and composing in an interesting fashion and quit running everything through the dirt.

Out of focus or blurry portraits/wedding photos. You’re not creative, your bad at your job. Stop it.

Older men on YouTube taking portraits of young women they hired, so they can talk about bokeh from a 2 grand lens they rented. We get it, your divorce was messy and the kids don't return your calls anymore.

Mixed colored lighting portraits in which the lighting isn’t motivated by the environment or the feeling you’d like to evoke.

The retro direct flash photos reminiscent of the 90s. You do you, but it's not for me.
