Baldur's Gate 3 just called, it says that anon is a moron.

[–] justOnePersistentKbinPlease@fedia.io 32 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Warframe also called. They have all of the cool stuff Destiny fans have been begging for since forever.

And, somehow: Mario kart mode? Better-gameplay-loop-than-star-citizen space ship to ship combat? Boy band villains.

Also they recently re-optimized their game and added a bunch of modern compression algorithms so a DX12 game runs decently on the switch.

[–] Leg@sh.itjust.works 10 points 5 days ago

I sincerely hope warframe never dies. I love it to pieces.

Even EA has managed to make a better starship combat game than Star Citizen. Obviously it's EA so naturally they abandoned it but still. For about 10 minutes there EA made a good game, full VR support too.

I don't know what it is, but... I have always been a Baldur's Gate fan of the first hour. BG1, when I played it back in 1998, blew my mind so completely that I STILL consider it the best CRPG ever made, hands down. After that came NWN and NWN2 and I enjoyed those also. It was also what introduced me to D&D and I read a ton of D&D novels after that.

So you'd think that when BG3 came along, especially with me being Belgian, I'd be completely stoked. I immediately bought the game and... found to my greatest surprise that I just couldn't enjoy it. At all.

See, I bought and tried Divinity: Original Sin 1 & 2 and had the EXACT same problem. I just couldn't/can't get over the turn-based combat. It sucks so much ass. Realtime with "hidden" dnd rules was the way to go.

So now whenever I see people gushing about BG3 I somehow feel like I "failed" myself for being disappointed in what seems to be the objectively best game ever made according to, well, everyone.

Maybe it's just a sign that there's something wrong with me and that I've lost the ability to enjoy good games. Ah well.

It sucks so much ass. Realtime with "hidden" dnd rules was the way to go.

As somebody who played turn-based RPGs first, I find that real-time with pause RPGs are slow, overly punishing and have no viable way to strategize. I dislike them very much.

This man isn't wise, he's just Grandpa Simpson.

Yeah, there are a lot of cool games out, especially when you take indy games into consideration.

[–] straightjorkin@lemmy.world 27 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I just saw a video of a teenage girl with biotic arms that actually functioned so no I don't believe that all the cool stuff is in the past

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago (1 children)

And yet you're talking about something you saw in the past. Maybe you just crossed the threshold.

[–] straightjorkin@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Yes but I saw it after this post was created, proving the axiom of the original post false.

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

Good point. OP should have waited to post that after you saw that video.

Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldurs Gate 3 want to have a word with anon

[–] truxnell@aussie.zone 9 points 5 days ago (3 children)

For sure! I definitely feel we've drastically slowed down but media is by no means dead. It can be harder to find the gems than before in some regards though.

[–] PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Hnm that definitely applies to AAA games, although I feel like the power dynamics are just changing. We see more and more indie smash hits, compared to AAA hits imo

[–] truxnell@aussie.zone 2 points 4 days ago

Yeah for sure, I've been fairly focussed on indies the last 5-7 years and only jump on AAA after it's released and reviews are in/on special. I believe there's only so large a human run corporation can be before it turns into an unmanageable mess and quality/focus of the product suffers, and most AAA are well past that point. Indies are the new small-medium sized fun Devs.

Anon is a fool. We have barely even begun to make games gay.

[–] lessthanluigi@lemmy.sdf.org 46 points 5 days ago (19 children)

And yet, I am still suprised and new ideas still are created

[–] Flemmy@lemm.ee 38 points 5 days ago (1 children)

"it's all over" because a anon said so.

Giga chad, no less.

... and that's why 4chan went offline. because there's nothing new to be said anymore. it has all been said already anyways

[–] Franklin@lemmy.ca 16 points 5 days ago

imagine blaming capitalism on the gays

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 16 points 5 days ago

Anon only plays games from when his parents weren't divorced

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 14 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Good games are still being made. Silksong for instance is to be relaesed this year

[–] taladar@sh.itjust.works 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I would hesitate to call any unreleased game good, not because I think good games won't come out in the future but because it is so hard to distinguish hype from reality until actual, regular people get to play it without any restrictions (like NDAs,...).

I'll believe that Silksong releases this year when it's on my Xbox and I'm playing it, and not a moment sooner

[–] demunted@lemmy.ml 6 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Thank fuck this wasn't posted before portal 2 was created... And rocket League... And ahh shit the new skate isn't out yet.

[–] Turd_Ferg@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 days ago

Lets be honest the new skate looks like crap.

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 days ago

This mf posted this before someone found an easy and cost-effective way to make large parabolic mirrors

[–] Linearity@infosec.pub 6 points 5 days ago

That’s not true Persona is modern.

[–] Default_Defect@midwest.social 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I hate to say it, but currently playing a lightly modded New Vegas is the most I've enjoyed a video game in while. Haven't touched it since I played it at release on the 360.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 5 points 5 days ago (5 children)

I'm playing a heavily modded fallout 4 (London) and I'm realizing it's actually a really good game if you let someone else do the writing.

Omg Jujutsu Kaisen

[–] Barbarian@sh.itjust.works 5 points 5 days ago

In terms of amazing new games, Terra Invicta is eating all my free time. I'm losing over and over because it's a sprawling beast of a grand strategy game, but still fascinating to poke around and see how deep the rabbithole goes.
