Certainly an interesting group of names here. By my count there's at least 8 guys here who were considered controversial or a part of a scandal or negative news story.

Does Cam Newton make the HOF?? All time leader in rushing TDs for a QB and had some great seasons

Mr Broken Cranium

[–] milkmandanimal@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (12 children)

The interesting one is MBC, and whether his late-career insanity, walking off the field in the Jets game, running an AFL team into the ground, and being basically garbage in many ways keeps him out. Spoilers; it probably does.

Gronk is the easy first-ballot guy. AP could legitimately be last the first-ballot RB we see maybe ever. Roethlesberger gets in at some point, Richard Sherman probably does thanks to a 3-4 year run where he was one of the best CBs around. Other than that, either no particularly strong feelings or a bunch of guys who won't even get consideration.

[–] KaleidoscopeOk19@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

No way he gets to give a speech in Canton. His career probably deserves it, but damn. They’ll find a way to keep him out.

[–] Heistdur@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Uhh Andrew Whitworth was a really fucking good tackle

[–] WokenMrIzdik@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The second he retired it was clear that he was basically the entire Rams offensive line for their Super Bowl run. Dude was so underrated.

Andrew whitworth. Classic example of undervaluing the unsung heros

[–] awnawkareninah@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Gronk is a mega lock, three rings two standing NFL TE records, like what 90 TDs from Brady?

[–] Roscoes_Rashie@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Surely Mack makes it. 3 x AllPro, 7 x ProBowl, Team of the Decade.

[–] rolluaroll@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Weddle the next guy up after the ones you listed. Pretty strong resume.

8 guys? I'm really only seeing 3. Peterson, Antonio Brown and Big Ben. Oh Richie incognito too with the bullying thing

[–] Ok_Caramel1517@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Out of everyone on this list AP, Sherman, Gronk, Weddle, Roethlisberger are probably the only ones for sure getting in.

[–] treenorthXne@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Whit, AD and Gronk are the only no-brainer first ballot guys, imho.

[–] jwilcoxwilcox@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Jimmy Graham is on an active roster today. Not sure he’s eligible that year.

[–] DailYxDosE@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Damn I had no idea he still played until right now

[–] OfficeAccomplished52@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

He’s back on the saints, caught a TD earlier this year

I know graham won't get in, but his career stats are pretty gaudy for a TE. Prime jimmy was a machine for brees

[–] mrubuto22@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

He might get in, but not first ballot.

I don't see how Antonio brown gets in the way he ended and still carries on.

He's got a ring with Drew at least

[–] TheFencingCoach@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (3 children)

In my Opinion…

#1st Ballot

  • Gronk

  • Peterson

#Probable/Eventual Hall of Famers (not 1st ballot)

  • Roethlisberger

#Outside Chance But Not a Guarantee by Any Means

  • Sherman

Everyone else has no chance in hell.

[–] ToddPolt@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Weddle will get in eventually. 2010s all decade team and he came out of retirement for that Rams ring

[–] PurpleBullets@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I would only add Whitworth

[–] LB3PTMAN@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I’d put Sherm in same tier as Ben and put Whitworth in the bottom tier. Sherman is the only Hall worthy corner entering the ballot in a minute and will be the only one for a bit.

And Whitworth I think eventually gets in. 2 first team all pros, 1 second team, 4 pro bowls and really should’ve been more. 16 years in the league and was the oldest offensive lineman to retire and oldest to win a Super Bowl. Also a Walter Payton man of the year award.

As a Cincinnati fan I do think the Rams run is what really will put him over the top and get him in. Getting a Super Bowl really helps Hall chances.

[–] BlaqShogunCowboy@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Incognito has no reason to be considered for the HOF. I don’t care if he was serviceable for the Raiders, he was a continuously dirty player. And then he wasted a roster spot and money after his injury. Keep him AHT

And how is Lev Bell rated higher than Big Ben?

[–] The_Moffin_Man@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

How is Cam Newton? A few ridiculous years, but overall stats and career is not even close. I think Ben had more years making the playoffs than cam was even in the league.

Not sure but I’m glad they are finally looking at Nickelodeon’s legend, Alex Mack she held her own down

[–] Brookie069@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Peterson and Gronk are first ballot. I think Big Ben will only be waiting 3-4 years max. Richard Sherman probably gets in a awhile later. I mean Ronde Barber just got in. Antonio Brown would have been high on peoples lists but he’s too controversial now.

4 Pittsburgh Steelers 😏

[–] Do_it_for_the_upvote@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

If AB makes it in, I’ll eat cereal with equal parts vodka and milk, and a splash of toothpaste. I think he’s burned too many bridges to be acknowledged in that way, regardless of how dominant he was.

I’m glad that I got to watch his play, though. And, a little guilty about it, that I got to enjoy his crazy saga.

[–] sofresh24@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Jack Doyle being on this random list is the closest he will ever be to being a HOFer

[–] AFWUSA@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Man Gronk should be #2 on this list no question

[–] bronsonsmoustache@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Incognito? Good lord. I hope not.

[–] kohzi@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

This is going to be wildly unpopular, especially on Reddit, but I don’t think that personal/off field issues shouldn’t be taken into account—to an extent—when it comes to the hall of fame.

The hall is for what players did on the field, and there are countless players across all of the major sports that are in their respective halls’ for that exactly, all the while doing worse shit than the players being brought up.

They should be voted in based on their accomplishments on the field. If their personal issues were so bad and caused them to miss a ton of time, they simply wouldn’t be in the hall because the accolades wouldn’t be there. Again, I’m gonna get downvoted and that’s fine. Just my two cents.

[–] Similar_Reference_10@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Kevin Williams is monster hall of fame snub no one talks about

[–] Dreadsbo@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Is Leveon Bell HoF or Hall of Very Good?

[–] OkBoomer6919@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

90% of this list won't even sniff the hall.

[–] ButtonedEye41@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I dont know, this is all super simple to me. Gronk and AP are first ballot locks, and I would think Sherm has a good chance at first ballot, but three in one class is just a lot. Sherman will for sure get in though and won't have to wait very long.

Roethlisberger gets in eventually, but he might have to wait awhile. He was a good QB, but lets be honest, he most a guy hanging around in the top 10, never really making a case for even top 3. Like if you seriously were to name the HoF QBs from the 2000s-2010s, the first people you name are Brady, Peyton, Rodgers, Brees. After that you think Eli, but mostly because of how he effects Brady's legacy. Then you remember Roethlisberger won two SBs. He will get the HoF eventually, but it will be once voters kind of forget how his play compared to his peers and take a look at his SBs and stats and think, "why is this guy not in yet?".

AB has some huge ass-kissing to do. Everyone knows his stats and how good he was. But if TO had work to do, then AB needs to get a PhD in ass-kissing if he wants to get in during his lifetime.

And if none of you realize, the reason Brown has to kiss-ass and Roethlisberger and AP don't is because the league and media doesn't care about whether you do crappy things off the field unless it directly effects league personnel and the imagine of the league. A lot of people don't even think about AP hitting his kid or generally being a shit dad because this is all stuff that happened outside of the spotlight and didn't effect how he played in games. Same with Roethlisberger. Neither of these guys were sentenced or were really kept off the field for any memorable period.

When people think about AP and Roethlisberger, their first thought is about what they did on the field. Same goes for Ray Lewis. The controversies are then an asterisk next to their name because the guys didn't put their issues into the spotlight. With AB its different. The first thing you think of a literally batshit crazy guy who's asterisk is that he was good at football because he put all of his crazy in the spotlight, which is similar to TO who put all of his drama in the spotlight. The league thinks these people make them look bad. Not that he is even close to the HoF, but another comparison is Vick. Is what Vick did any worse than what AP or Roethlisberger? I'll refrain from giving any answer myself because its a question of how you assign moral values to different bad crimes, but Vick's primary legacy always involves the dog fighting and his before/after jail time. You don't have that storyline with AP or Roethlisberger because they didn't literally go to prison. They just went back and kept continuing their career. If AP was sentenced to jail, then I would feel it would effect is HoF chances/wait, but I really don't think the voters care at all because it didn't effect the product on the field.

[–] elroddo74@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Its the Nfl, they care less about that stuff than say Mlb. Big Ben Rapelessberger won't have issues, neither will AP the switchmaster.

[–] DioStarstriker@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Brandon Brooks confused the hell outta me for a moment, thought what the hell is Brandon Cooks doing on this list?

[–] Unverifiablethoughts@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Yeah you’re in the era of tremendously athletic shitheads.

But any list that has cam newton above Big ben should be immediately thrown out.

[–] sullyy42@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

rothlesburger and peterson will be first ballot despite their scandals (too long ago quite forgotten), MBC will wait some years like TO did but also has a shot for first ballot because of a weak class

[–] wiggylord@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Man at least 3 that deserve first ballot honors.

[–] hawkayecarumba@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

It will be interesting to see how Antonio Brown is treated.

TO, who had a case as a top 3 reciever of ALL TIME got stone walled his first 2 years, and he looks like a saint compared to AB.

[–] Metrostars1029@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Whitworth will get in. It’ll be a bit of a wait for him though. He’ll be one of those guys who gets in after years and years of consideration. Hopefully its him giving the speech in canton.
