Can someone ELI5 why the NBA doesnt give assists when a player is fouled. (alien.top)

So Im new to watching the NBA, but it seems players are more likely to foul hard late in the game to force shots at the line, especially if its a poor shooter. Shouldnt the passer be rewarded for that regardless? Maybe Im just looking at it wrong and someone can explain better. I googled and they do it in FIBA but maybe it makes more sense for them for some reason.

Hey there, I think I can chime in here. It's because the player who is fouled did not score a basket. Hope this helps!
