John Yoo's legacy.

So I really dislike having guns in the home since I have young children. At this point I'm willing to consider it. I don't have a room for a massive gun safe and nor do I know what gun to get for home defense. What resources are out there to help me find a starting point?

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 4 points 7 hours ago

What gun will provide home defense against an ICE SWAT team? Seems to me that a gun in this situation means someone you care about will get seriously injured or die. And/or go to jail for murder.

Makes me think investing in a Halon fire suppression system could be useful. Along with gas masks for everyone.

If you are uncertain what type of gun to get for home defense, id strongly recommend taking training courses before considering. They'll help you get comfortable with one that works for you and your use cases.

ICE would get a face full of lead from my home

[–] MuskyMelon@lemmy.world 50 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Just wanted to add that since ICE agents are just walking around doing shit without identifying themselves, anyone could walk into your house and rob/rape/murder you while claiming to be ICE if you resist.

Just want to make it clear that this opens up a whole lot of home invasions.

[–] Kookie215@lemmy.world 13 points 16 hours ago

Exactly! have no warrants and don't identify themselves; they don't even have a uniform or badges. I do not care who they say they are, anyone can say they are ICE to get into my home. Do we honestly believe that people are not going to do that? Like be real, this is a flashing beacon of hope to criminals.

This is a blatant violation of the 4th amendment, and the cure for it is the 2nd amendment.

Remember, none of this is restricted to actual gang members.

If they can deport anyone who is a member of a Venezuelan gang to a prison camp without trial then, oops, turns out everyone they don't like is a member of a Venezuelan gang.

You can prove you're not? Too bad. That would require a trial. You don't get one of those, because we say you're a member of a Venezuelan gang.

See how this works?

ICE are Trump's sturmabteilung. If he's allowed to get away with any of this, it will not be long before he starts turning them on anyone who openly disagrees with him.

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 24 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Garcia was deported to El Salvador with alleged Venezuelan gang members, but he wasnt Venezuelan, so they just declared him MS-13 instead.

Facts dont matter, they'll just create "alternative facts" that fit their narrative.

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 3 points 10 hours ago

This.

Since Due Process is no longer a thing, anybody can immediately be called an enemy of the state.

For conservatives: say something bad about Biden? Guess what? MAGA is now a gang and you will end up in El Salvador. No proof needed.

[–] evenglow@lemmy.world 17 points 19 hours ago

All they have to do is follow the law. Law says they can call anyone a terrorist or national security threat and that removes people's rights. This has been law for years. Now, Republicans are using it because they know they will not get in trouble.

You don't have to be in a gang. They will say standing outside of a Home Depot is a lawful reason to send you to a South American gulag. Because Republicans will not get in trouble.

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 20 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Well that'll be interesting in all of those stand your ground states.

Today sounds like a great day for Congress to abolish ICE.

[–] PortoPeople@lemm.ee 32 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Waiting for the first story of a shootout.

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 17 points 16 hours ago

I already know which side I'm rooting for.

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 11 points 15 hours ago

The fuck they can.

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

"Them there folks" in the red run welfare states will use stand your ground. WTF, ICE should be renamed to Gestapo or NKVD.

[–] adp1314@lemmy.world 4 points 12 hours ago

My second amendment rights say otherwise

[–] RedditIsDeddit@lemmy.world 5 points 13 hours ago

I'd love to see them try

[–] Muscle_Meteor@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

Anyone want to build an exploding house?

Im not American but if someone wants this idea id love to read about it some day

Edit: spelling

[–] Kookie215@lemmy.world 52 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Remember when we were told that kids had to keep dying so we could be allowed to keep guns in our home in case the government decides to break down our doors one day??? Member that? Pepperidge Farms remembers.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

No way, do you mean all that 2nd amendment talk was just marketing to sell more guns!?

[–] Kookie215@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago

Can you believe it! Who knew?

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 11 points 17 hours ago

This is precisely what the Founding Fathers intended it be used for.

[–] seaside@reddthat.com 60 points 1 day ago (21 children)

Doesn’t the US incorporate castle doctrine principles - an affirmative defense to criminal homicide occurring within a home? Combine that with lax to nonexistent gun control and a high gun ownership rate, and you’re just asking for trouble.

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 13 points 16 hours ago

They WANT trouble, in as many ways as possible. That will allow him to justify imposing Martial Law, and suspend elections.

He has a razor thin majority in Congress, with the 2016 midtetm election ahead (which is shaping up to be a bloodbath), and he can't afford to lose either chamber, which would give Dems control of investigative committees with subpoena and arrest powers.

He wants violence, and he will be instigating it in as many ways as possible.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 22 points 21 hours ago

That's if they let you live long enough to make it to trial, nevermind afterward. 😶

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 4 points 15 hours ago

Sounds like a judge who also needs to be shot

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 2 points 13 hours ago

Exactly my thought. If they try to enter without a warrant then we have the right to protect ourselves, right? If the "2A" people have ever cared about logical consistency (which I won't accuse them of) this is where it applies more than almost any other case.

This is going to go over great in a country that prides itself on unrestricted firearms for home and personal protection 🫣

[–] fluxion@lemmy.world 11 points 20 hours ago

Those folks will bend over the hardest

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 7 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

They would love nothing more than a few ice agents getting shot to justify an even harsher show of force in the future

Any local administrator that signs in for this, is guilty of treason. This administration is guilty, conclusively, now of treason. Why isn't it being removed? What's all this about checks and balances? Seems like the people invoking the alien enemies acts have become, themselves alien enemies.

[–] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 7 points 17 hours ago

I wouldn't recommend it.
