Senior presidential adviser Kari Lake appears to have resolved any doubts about what she wants to do with the Voice of America.

Lake seeks for it to look and sound a lot like the far-right One America News Network: on Tuesday night she announced that she had struck a deal to serve up the pro-Trump outlet's news reports for Voice of America's foreign audiences, at no taxpayer cost.

I am so so sorry for people that will be exposed to this complete garbage.

[–] Manifish_Destiny@lemmy.world 42 points 2 days ago

Yeah unfortunately this has a chance of doing real damage.

[–] blakenong@lemmings.world 18 points 2 days ago

It will probably have a huge impact on your life within a year. Many people are going to lose their lives, and it could be you.

[–] darctones@lemmy.world 36 points 2 days ago

I will never forgive the people that did this to us

[–] RagingSnarkasm@lemmy.world 27 points 2 days ago

Fuck this timeline.

I hope there is someone keeping track of this firehose of sewage so we know what needs to get cleaned up in the less-dystopian future (if we're lucky enough to have one). Do we start a Project 2029(?), to return the country to sanity?

Again, I'm not sure we'll ever have the opportunity because the horizon is pretty dark. But it's overwhelming just trying to keep track of how many of the country's worst people are implementing their dream agendas with no oversight or limitation whatsoever.

Given how they’re fucking with the electoral mechanics and bureaucracies, I’m honestly becoming pretty convinced that they have no real intention of allowing free and fair elections to ever occur in this country again.

Vive la resistance, I guess? :(

[–] MegaUltraChicken@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

they have no real intention of allowing free and fair elections to ever occur in this country again

At this point I say we make them do it or lose. And if they go through with it, we simply have to start killing people until they stop.

I don't want that to be the case, but I think it is. What's most important is we continue contesting the fuck out of them at every possible point. Accepting that they're going to rig the process only makes it easier for them and suppresses the fight after.

[–] blakenong@lemmings.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Nobody is resisting though. We are just letting it happen.

Americans have been beaten down

I've never seen such learnt helplessness at a societal level before

[–] blakenong@lemmings.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Sure you have. Look at the entire world. The US isn’t unique, it’s just happening right now and very loudly—and also very comically.

[–] FistingEnthusiast@lemmynsfw.com 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

My country just held an election where convervatism and populist bullshit were soundly defeated

The idiot who had his arse kicked tried playing from the Trump deck, and it was the single most stupid thing he could have done

The US isn't unique, there are loads of shitty countries like Hungary and Argentina who have made stupid decisions too, but it's definitely not the "whole world", because contrary to popular opinion, the world is not America

[–] blakenong@lemmings.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I more meant to consider all the other countries, and not that 100% of them are like it.

I’m guessing you’re from Canada? PP didn’t get his ass kicked, he lost by about 4%. That should frighten you.

Although if you’re from Australia, the divide was nearly 10% on the TPP, so good on them.

Australia

I'm glad to be a long way from 'Murica

[–] blakenong@lemmings.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I’m glad your country kicked those cunts. Truly.

But, have some pity for those of us who didn’t vote for our insanity.

[–] FistingEnthusiast@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh, I absolutely do

There are so many wonderful people in the US, but there are loads of lunatics, and an unfortunately large cohort who could have voted against it, but didn't bother. They're just as responsible

[–] blakenong@lemmings.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes, a large number of people chose not to vote. The United States is currently under attack by who the fuck ever to encourage left-wing voters not to vote. On Lemmy, you can thank the ML community for their “genocide Joe“ nonsense which targeted left-wing voters to abstain from voting in order to make a statement. I believe that this push was from outside of the country. I don’t want to be a conspiracy terrorist in this thread, so let’s just leave it at that.

I am hoping that the United States declares that same-sex marriage is no longer a thing, and that Australia will accept me as a refugee. My spouse, same sex, is a nurse with management experience, I am a software developer with 20 years of experience including management. Both of us would be a wonderful addition to your country and would work very hard to ensure our place.

That means more than you think it does.

#merica ;.(

I get it

My fiancée lives over there

Long-distance relationships are hard enough, but it's worse knowing that she's living in shitty, dangerous part of the world. We've been talking and I've heard gunfire in the background, and I absolutely hate the way her employer treats her, but there's nothing she can do about at the moment

We're working on getting her here. It's a process, and it's going to take time, but we're making it happen

I get to see her again in a matter of weeks, and I cannot wait

I live in Tasmania, which is easier to get a visa to move to because it's considered a part of regional Australia. There's a desperate need for nurses, and life here is quite amazing (property is expensive though, but that's true for all Australia)
