There was only one Tom Brady
NFL
A place for NFL news, game highlights and everything that excites you about American Football.
Cuz no one else got carried by his golden boy.
Maybe the bad fruit aren’t as good at cheating.
I’m happy the “Bill Belichick is overrated” conversations happen semi frequently here cuz it reminds me 90% of this sub has no fucking clue what they’re talking about.
They didn’t take Tom Brady with them.
Because the Bill Belichick coaching tree requires being watered by the Tom Brady awesome quarterbacking irrigation system.
Like literally he has a combined losing record in the seasons in which Tom Brady was not his starting quarterback. He's not that great of a coach. His brilliance is entirely overrated. He got lucky enough to have a stable starting quarterback for a long time during that quarterback's Hall of Fame prime. That's it.
Everyone who's always fellating this guy isn't paying attention to the stats.
Because his protégés didn’t have Tom Brady playing QB?
Tom Brady isn't on their teams
Cuz coaching trees are dumb and dont matter.
I think it’s pretty simple. Guys learn under Belichick and try to do the same thing when they’re on their own, but the players don’t respect them because they haven’t won anything.
Only like 20% of all NFL coaches have winning career records
They don't have Tommy Brady.
That question is awfully generous to those failed coaches, and simultaneously really creepy
In a word: Brady
Authoritarianism does not produce capable leiutenants who can easily point out the flaws in the leader. That way they can never replace the leader or challenge his authority. What it does produce is people who can yell the same message. Patriots Way mantra BS. But the Patriot way actually included something special that it's immitations do not, Tom Brady. Im not trying to denigrate anybody by pointing this out. But having the game's greatest QB ever will make those associated with his presence seem better than they were capable of becoming on their own. And other teams would be foolish to not try to see if there is something to the coaches But what we keep finding out, over and over again, is that the irreplacable ingredient is and always has been Brady, not the coaching side
Because there is only 1 Tom Brady
Cause it was tawmi's magic all along
He’s clearly soaked up all the wins
because he rode bradys coattail for 20 yrs and hes not a good teacher
Because he’s a beneficiary of Tom Brady, evidenced by his coaching incompetence without Tom
Turns out that when you have Tom Brady as your QB, he makes the coaching staff look better than they actually are.
Who woulda thunk it?
Because the secret sauce was always Tom Brady
When you're really good at something, you make it look super easy. So easy that others think they can do it too. Until it's all on them, and then its not so easy anymore.
The article basically just speculates why his tree has been poor, but it brings up what should be the obvious answer.
Belichick is perhaps the best game time adjuster and improviser the league will ever see. He sees what a team can do and takes it away.
He is also the gm and has final say over everything. I'd bet most of his former coaches were never given that power, and the ones that were had no clue how to use it ( BoB )
The people yelling " Brady " are just silly. Plenty of coordinators have coached HoF players on teams and went on to be a head coach and do fine despite not having a " Brady. "
Because much like Bill Belichick now, they don't have Tom Brady.
Belichick is an awful coach for the offensive side of the ball. Look at his track record of WRs he’s drafted and brought in. They’ve all been trash. If it wasn’t for Brady he would’ve been fried and working as a DC the last 15 years.
He's never been a good coach without Brady.
That's why.
Pretty much this.
The Peter Principle states that, if you perform well in your job, you will likely be promoted to the next level of your organization's hierarchy. You will continue to rise up the ladder until you reach the point where you can no longer perform well.
Because the Patriot Way only works when the coach actually commands respect. Josh McDaniels and Matt Patricia in particular are both dipshits. Players don't respect them and they're too arrogant and short-sighted to even notice it (it's absolutely laughable that the players in Vegas had to basically hold an intervention for McDaniels about his behavior and that was ultimately what cost him his job). Whatever Belichick's flaws are he's won 5 SBs in NE. He commands respect for entirely that reason.
My guess…he’s a control freak that doesn’t let guys really run with their plans/creativity.
Add to the fact that OCs had Tom Fucking Brady for years to make their resumes really shine. Brady was probably running that offense more than most of the OCs were.
For the offensive coaches it’s becuase they didn’t have Brady. This ain’t a “Brady madw bill Belichick” or vice versa argument, but there’s very rarely been a great coach that didn’t have a franchise QB and franchise QBs don’t grow on trees. For the defensive coaches, it’s because Bill runs almost everything with the defense. Brady and Bill (the coach and the GM) WERE “The patriot way”. The other coaches played their parts and contributed for sure, but when you go on your own and don’t have the greatest QB ever, and you no longer work under the best coach of all time, stuff gets tough.
Cuz Belichick isn’t good without Brady duh
Because McDaniels is a loser down to his soul.
Because they don’t have TB12. Look at Bill now without him.
Belichick has a hard ass coaching style. Players hate it, but will deal with it when the coach has earned their respect. You do it his way, and you get results.
His system also looks for very specific traits in its players. Stars on the Patriots tend to not play well on other teams.
Now coaches under Belichik learn his system, and his coaching style. They try to bring the Patriot way elsewhere. The roster isn't built for it, and the players are not happy.
People being a leader doesn't mean they're also a teacher. There's often overlap but not for everyone. I'm sure a lot of people under him more or less skated by on his direction of things and didn't really glean much of it, which you could say might be a bad quality of BB but what the fuck does he care if the team is winning rings?
It’s not like his goal was to reach them how to be a head coach.
You can be good at your role without being fit to be a head coach. Sure, a lot of transferable skills between an OC or DC and a head coach. Some roles held by an OC in one team will be done by a head coach at another.
But just because they worked under Bill Belichick does not mean they should be a good head coach. If anything, from what we know about Bill Belichick, it might make more sense for them to not be. Regardless, I don’t get the point of this take other than it being a fun fAct
I feel like Bill Belichick made a system that can't change. The cogs are not conducive to replacement and the system itself to any form of modification. Like Josh McDaniel is a garbage HC and there's kind of room to suggest a bad person, but I wonder if it's a coincidence that Mac Jones only even slightly good year (and the last year the offense was good in general) was when he was OC.
What is this push to discredit Bill belichick this week? Who did he piss off?
Cuz he’s not a great coach, he’s average. His record without Brady is sub .500. It’s somewhere around 80-90.
The stronger you are, the weaker the rest of your team is.
Bill looks for competent and loyal followers who will implement and maintain his way of doing things. Competent and loyal followers are rarely capable leaders.
There’s also the fact that the skills required to be a good coordinator are entirely different from those needed to be a good head coach, but that’s a more general football issue and not at all specific to Bill.
Because he cheats…
