Hey everyone. Happy to finally get this out, it's been one busy month.
I'm looking to add a lifetime option for ultra & option to just remove ads. Keep in mind this is the first release, lots more to follow.
Cheers!

So happy to see you are back and active. Thank you!
What ads are being removed?
Edit; oh God theres ads on the app?? I thought you were talking about ads somewhere on lemmy.
Edit again. Yes I now know there ads on the app. I thought the first edit made that clear. You can stop replying telling me there's ads on the app. I know this. Stop acting like reddit.
Probably the ads placed in the app to help pay for development costs of creating a free app.
No shit. Thanks Mr obvious. Lol
My excitement is tempered by two things, the ultra cost being a subscription (I get the "why" I just hate more subscriptions) and also the pretty crappy targeted adverts "consent" whereby you have to scroll through page after page of third party vendors to turn off the "legitimate" interest which is, let's be honest their way around consent by just ignoring what you want. That's put me right off in all honesty sorry.
Man, when the Pro lifetime comes out I'm there but at this point I'm not going to engage at all with either being tracked by advertisers or being forced to go through all that. There are other open source apps that don't do any of that which may not be quite as good but the difference is worth it. Lemmy doesn't have any ads. Why should I subject myself to ads or being tracked to use what is already free?
If you use dns.adguard.com you won't have any ads.
Then there's me, who actively went hunting for where I could pay for this app as soon as I opened it
This dev has never been anything but respectful of his community. I have no qualms paying him the equivalent of 2 beers a year for something I have used for multiple hours a day every day for more than a decade. Easy value proposition.
The targeted ads thing I guess I get, but I haven't had ads on Sync for so long it honestly didn't really phase me because I planned to buy ad free anyway. Hopefully that bit gets streamlined.
Thanks for pointing that out. Big no for me. I shuddered when I saw Facebook mentioned there.
It's amazing how many cookie consent banners aren't compliant. There has to be a button where you can clearly reject all, where it has equal look and feel as accept all. By default all non required cookies must be disabled, but the fact we can turn off the legitimate interest options shows they're not required, and so they're not compliant.
Basically every banner should have a reject button that's just as clear as the accept. I'd you're going through any extra effort to reject then it's not compliant.
contains adds
contains in-app purchases
collects data
shares data with 3d party orgs
Nothing against sync, but this is not what I'd expect from lemmy app tbh. There's a lot of free open source options that don't sell your data.
Asking to be paid for your job is OK, but injecting ads in ad-free opensource service, selling user data? This is just reddit-app-moment in my opinion

Tell me you've never paid for a service, without telling me you've never paid for a service
Sync does not sell user data. It uses only the basic prerequisites for an ad service Settings shortcut: Privacy > Privacy policy
If an independent developer, who has worked on an app for 10 years, and has had their work ruined by a greedy company, turns around and makes an app for an entirely new community, within a month of losing his main source of revenue, and it's as polished, smooth, and user-friendly as can be, doesn't deserve to put food on the table, then quite simply, you're incredibly misinformed.
I can comment but I can't make a new post.... Huh. I guess that'll come soon?
When I saw the restore purchases, I almost thought I could restore the lifetime ultra I got for the reddit app lmao. Hope there'll be a discount when lifetime gets added for old lifetime buyers :)

The pricing is a bit much, especially compared to other services like Tutanota that actually runs servers and provides a service in addition to developing the applications. $20-$30 for the onetime purchase option would be more sane.
I know I bought Sync Pro for Reddit, but I know that was nowhere close to these prices.
EDIT: Found the Remove Ads option, and that is more reasonable priced.
Not FOSS? Not interested.
Oh my god it's beautiful. It's so beautiful.
I love it. Can't wait to remove ads (because it seems IAP is not here yet?)
Yeah I'm not very interested in a subscription service but I'd happily pay a larger fee upfront to remove ads forever with no extra features. I can handle settings backup/sync myself.
Edit: It's here! Instant purchase. :D
I love LJ's work and will happily remove ads from Sync when possible (even though my adblocker hides them anyway). I'm not very fond of buying Ultra, as I hate paying for something I won't use. Ironically I would rather make a recurring donation via Liberapay and get nothing out of it than pay for some functionality and feel uneasy about never using it, lol. I already support my home instance on Liberapay
The sub also gives a massive cut to Google, which is a waste of money
This is the only part of ultra that actually bothers me. I grabbed it primarily to support the development. And I'd be much more happy about it if 100% went to the creator. But app stores remove any apps that tell you how to pay a different way. So there could be a way and the app simply isn't allowed to tell us.
2 things
I just checked and not available for me here in California.
Why would i use this app vs what i currently have which is a pinned webpage? I dont have ads. I can easily navigate. Auto dark mode. I can search comments. What does this have that i dont currently?
Firstly, I'm happy to see Sync return.
I made sure to subscribe to help make developing the app financially viable.
Secondly.. With the Sync beta just going live, I'm already running into my very first bugs.
What would be the appropriate place to report these bugs?
Edit: My question has already been answered by OP:
Oh and please note that bugs should be reported in #sync-support-and-bugs in the discord: https://discord.gg/qYWxqva
Unlike others asking for a lifetime license, as I understand development of such an app has ongoing costs, would it be possible to have a pay per year option? I'm honestly tired of micro-managing subscriptions, so if I could just pay for a year, and then have to pay again if I'm still using it in a year and the ads reappear, that'd be fine. I still want to show my support.
Ultra or Patron.
Both are subscriptions. I just want to pay once and then let the time run out before deciding if I want to pay again.
You and me both man, AU$170 is whack. But not really if you look to amortize it :P
Don't know if the dev will see this, but can you add the ability to go directly to a subreddit (community@instance) or a user (user@instance)?
Long press explore to access the search feature.
Posting from sync, let's go!
I've only had a brief look, but is there a way to pay for pro (but not ultra) so I can remove ads?
Commenting from sync! I'm so happy. แ( แ )แ
