We all know about the obvious unbreakable NBA records. John Stockton's career assist and steals totals, LeBron's potential scoring record wherever that ends up, Michael Jordan having 10 scoring titles, ones like that. However, I stumbled across another seemingly unbreakable record currently owned by Derek Fisher, a record that is far less prestigious than the aforementioned ones.

This is a list of the 5 players with the most career games shooting under 30% from the field:

  • Derek Fisher, 425

  • Jason Kidd, 364

  • Robert Horry, 352

  • Jamal Crawford, 339

  • Brian Shaw, 321

As you can see, the gap between 1st and 2nd place is pretty large, and it's by far the largest gap anywhere on this list. The closest active player to Fisher in this state is PJ Tucker, the 2nd (I think) oldest player in the NBA, currently at 253 games. There's not a single player on a trajectory to even come close to Fisher's mark. The closest that I can find is Marcus Smart, who at 29 years old currently in his 10th season is at 174 games, but he would need to continue playing at his current rate for another like 15+ years in order to reach Fisher's mark.

Combine all that with the fact that the NBA today is more efficient than ever before, and I think it's safe to say that Derek Fisher's NBA record of most career games shooting under 30% from the field will never be broken.

That’s quite the stat to be the leader of

[–] JadedButWicked@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Reminds me in middle school I always would argue that I could beat Derek Fisher one on one because all he could do is shoot.

[–] bestraptoralive@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Interesting that three of the players on that list were on the Lakers 3-peat team at the same time averaging over 60 regular season wins and losing only 13 playoff games over 3 championship runs.

[–] motorboat_mcgee@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those were games of like shooting 1 for 4 while Shaq and Kobe scored 70 of the team's 90 pts. The context of the era, and who they played with matters a lot.

It's not like Fish was jacking up 20 shots a game

[–] Vesuviussky@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Damn.... 3 of the 5 are apart of the 3peat Shaq and Kobe Lakers. That's no coincidence. In the deadball era on the best team of the era. I guess when you don't get the ball often, it's hard to make shots when you do. Simutaneously though, those Lakers couldn't afford anyone else and could win with worse teammates so who tf cares?

[–] misterrunon@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I remember always being so frustrated with him when he drove to the rim.. would always get blocked or shoot it off the backboard.

He seemingly got hot in almost every playoff run that I can remember.. he shot close to 50% from 3 a few times too.

Julius Randle still gunning for it though.

[–] Sti8man7@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Homie caught a stray.

[–] swantonist@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Hell yeah, fuck Derek Fisher. Always fucked the spurs for no reason.

[–] nogilifestyle98@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

If Kidd had a better shot he would have been a top 3 pg of all time

Julius Randle: allow me to introduce myself

[–] radda@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Nothing less than he deserves.

No I'm not still mad shut up.

[–] Far-Yak-9808@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

The Thompson Twins have entered the chat.

[–] Far-Yak-9808@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Except for Jamal Crawford (who didn't get the memo), the other guys on that list have combined for 16 NBA championships (I think).

[–] 1inamill@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Hakeem Olajuwon’s career blocks doesn’t look reachable as well.

Probably most blown open layups in nba history too the fucker

[–] jitterbuug@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Always on the fast break

[–] Explodeos@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He's also tied with Tony Parker for all time most player's wives stolen.

[–] Gonzo_Bonzo_atl@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

That he lied three times to get out of his contracts?

[–] DontBanMe_IWasJoking@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I don't think being bad at something counts as a record. no one is trying to break it, and as the league always improves, no one will break any old "this player was really bad" record

[–] Ramzaa_@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Crawford said he could average high 20s per game if he started in today's NBA lmao

[–] MooMooHeffer@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Crawford would have a vastly different game playing today. I could see it.

[–] Gustav_LeBron@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Funny how 3 of 5 people on the list were kobe's teammates who had low usage. Probably just went 1/4 in a bunch of games

[–] WhoArtThyI@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Didn't know Marcus smart entered the league at 19

[–] viking_@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Combine all that with the fact that the NBA today is more efficient than ever before

Efficient as in points per shot, sure, but the rise of 3s makes it more likely to have nights with low field goal %.

[–] CrustyRaver@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I see a low volume good defensive player getting there while shooting corner threes.

If he has two 1/4’s and one 2/4 every three games he’s still shooting a passable 33% from three.

That's just a pointless stat. Records are meant to be broken or at least challenged. If it's impossible to break or not a positive-type factor then who cares. Like if someone plays in the NBA for a short time and misses once and that's their only shot nobody cares that their career shooting is 0% and nobody is trying to replicate that or challenge their record.

[–] New_Essay_4869@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

If only Devonte Graham played more games

[–] thenotoriouspo2@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Becky with the good hair smiled

[–] Owenclimbs@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Am I dumb for being surprised at Horry being 3rd on this list?

[–] Pensw@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

the top players are gonna be players that shoot very little and played a lot of games

cause having 0/2, 1/4 type of shooting games is really easy

[–] Recent-Curve7616@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Killian maybe?

[–] elxhapo6@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It’s crazy because in 2002 somebody would have told you fisher was the best 3 point shooter on the team outside of Robert horry

[–] jitterbuug@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He is a top player for 3s made in finals history

[–] JapaneseToiletGhost@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Nephews: clearly dick fish wasn't one of the all time greats but he was a solid, serviceable point guard whi was unafraid of the moment. You could do much MUCH worse than dick fish.

[–] lshaped210@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Also the .4 second game winning shot against the Spurs. That record will probably hold for a long time.

[–] UofMtigers2014@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Dillon Brooks?

[–] j1h15233@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

What a missed opportunity by Udonis Haslem

[–] mcknightrider@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

This is what happens when you can't dunk

[–] Longjumping_Bad9555@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

How about fisher and Shaw having been championship teammates despite that shooting.

[–] BearRedWood@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

All from the 00s, easily the worst era

[–] anonymous14657893@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Damn. When you think of Derek fisher and big shot Bob, you don’t expect them to be on this sort of list.

[–] dantam95@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Jordan Poole, I present you your next quest

[–] dbpf@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Easy to shoot under 30% when you go 1 for 4

[–] United_Rabbit6596@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

How about his shot against the spurs with point 4 seconds. Clutch!

[–] Moheezy__3@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Weren't Fisher, Horry, and Shaw all teammates at one point? You'd think with Kobe and Shaq, those players would get so many good looks.

[–] WolfenlX@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

why did he hit scola that hard that one time

[–] DansbyToGod@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

He also scored that game winning run in that thrilling World Series game between the Astros and Dodgers.
