I wouldn’t because I think it looks badass. If they get too bad in between now and your next service you could always do it then.

still looks good. its like part of the design

That watch is beautiful with the current hands. Wouldn’t touch it.

[–] Chirps_Golden@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah, they look tired

What are some cheaper budget watches I can get that have the same detail for numbers?

[–] aprasert@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It looks like a luminova dial, so I would change out the hands.

[–] manateesloveyou@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

What band is that?

[–] XoticCustard@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Replace if they can get the exact same hands.

[–] bill11217@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

What happened to them? They’re literally under glass—

[–] Bobby_Pine@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

You can if you want lume but you could also have Kyle send the originals back too so you still have them.

[–] sadzapan@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Nope. Don’t replace. It can only be original once

[–] wagglenews@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Nah just stop gnawing on them, though

[–] Happy_Boy_29@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Personally I'd keep it as is, break my legs and I might settle for a compromise of having them changed so long as the old parts are returned to me. Good luck what ever you choose.

No, they are fine as they are…

[–] WiseguyPokerClub@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I personally think it gives it character. Unless it's messing with the mechanics then I'd leave it.

Do it if it’s not expensive.

[–] Easy_Turn1988@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Imo keep them, they give a lot of character to the watch without looking too beat up. It's beautiful

[–] Tom0laSFW@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I like the wear I’d keep it if it were mine.

Related; I like relic’d guitars. Many hate them

[–] HE1NZ_ZW0@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If you can afford it - do it. Will look great!

[–] Hamking7@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

That's a beautiful watch and good to hear that IWC are taking that approach. I had a nightmare with their service of my chrono, which was returned with the chrono hand sticking against one of the others.

[–] SombongDukun@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

If I'm correct, the hands are from the post tritium era. If so, then yes. Replace them.

If it's tritium (unlikely, but don't know much about iwc), it's up to you (I would still replace them and ask the old ones back) to keep with the watch, but take the following in consideration;

Reason; The wear in the hands, don't look like pure oxidation to me. It looks like the paint peels. If that's the case, the microscopic paint flakes/particles will end up in the movement and ruin the fresh lubrication and the whole reason why you send it to get serviced.

[–] Centrum_Silver@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I like a watch that shows it's age, every nick and scratch tells a story and I think adds character. I would keep the hands but you gotta wear it.

[–] McDrummerSLR@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I always like to leave things as original as possible when I have my watches serviced, to me there’s a certain charm in having everything be the same as when you got it. Unless there’s something about the wear that could affect the movement, I say leave as is!

Totally your call of course but personally, as long as it’s exactly like for like, I’d get them replaced. To me, I’d be thinking that’s a manufacture fault, the hands deteriorating so badly and it shouldn’t have happened. The rest of the watch is spot on (external wear aside, which is a different story and part of your history of the watch). It’s not like they won’t be “original” as they’re from the manufacturer.
