Ya'll @KyrieIrving just got me to my year end goal on the filter fund with his surprise donation. If 4 other celebrities would match his donation we would be at my $1M goal for my filter fund. Who wants to step up for this kid from Flint?

On the GoFundMe page, Copeny writes that her community has been without clean water since April 2014 and that they are still recovering.

I’d rather have someone like Kyrie who has controversial political opinions but does things to help the community than someone who says only politically correct things and does nothing.

Saying dumb stuff has consequences for all, because speech influences behavior.

Gee guys don't ya know Ukraine and Israel need bombs and shit first

[–] Mobile_Chart_4783@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

The most moral player in the league!

[–] herseyhawkins33@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

That's great. Gotta love the fantasy land some people live in where they think we don't know Kyrie is a good philanthropist.

[–] MAMBAMENTALITY8-24@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Man kyrie is awesome

[–] SanDiegoGME@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Dude believes in water but not spheres

[–] hunteddwumpus@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Pretty sure the Flint water crisis was mostly solved years ago now. Theres certainly gonna be lasting effects, but at this point the water itself is safe to drink. Don’t really blame the people there who have trouble trusting that, but theres not much to help that. Regaining trust takes time.

So like if this charity is giving people peace of mind about their water, then sure sounds good to me even I think Kyrie is a nutjob.

[–] babysamissimasybab@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Props to Kyrie, but this story is just depressing. I had no idea Flint still didn't have clean water. Ugh, so awful.

[–] Hornsdowngunsup@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Soooo flint has good water now? Did Kyrie get bamboozled. Are we bamboozled? What’s going on

[–] SeriousLetterhead364@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Yeah…it seems like it. Which is kind of on brand for Kyrie. When he got in trouble for sharing the anti-Semitic video, there was a consensus that he likely didn’t even watch the video based on his comments.

This is probably similar. Kyrie remembers this being a huge issue years ago, but hasn’t really paid much attention since.

Nice to see, it’s hard to raise that much money. I would know, my gofundme for my dog goku (which can be seen in my profile) has been difficult yet I’ve still managed to raise 1800 so far. There are so many scammers who contact people trying to raise money, it’s so gross that people prey on those who are in need. It must work too or else no one would be doing it.

Lol why are all the comments trying to prove something. Good people do bad things and bad people do good things. Just react to the situation by itself. Good work kyrie!

[–] Seaniard@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I don't like Kyrie's actions related to vaccination. I don't like his antisemitism either. But there's no denying he is very charitable and tries to help people.

I agree that all people do good and bad. Kyrie does more in both directions. He's done more good and charitable work than the vast majority of people. He also has more extreme beliefs and actions on the negative side.

[–] Quowe_50mg@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

No one is criticizing him for what he's doing. People are just responding to the people who still think Flint has a huge water problem.

[–] thed3al@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

The situation in Flint just has me so sad. I've been reading Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha's book about the crisis and how GM absolutely gutted the city generations before this bomb of a crisis began.

Heads should have rolled, but here we are.

[–] WeefBellington24@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Yeah this is so fucked a go fund me is starting for public works issue. Like wtf.

Flint has had clean water for years. Why are we still doing fundraisers for this?

[–] FinanciallySpiritual@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)
[–] marriedacarrot@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Moreso than other cities? I'd trust a systematic review more than YouTube videos of news segments.

[–] BaineOHigginsThirlby@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Serious question, why are we relying on celebrities to fix the water problem in Flint?

[–] AppropriateLog6947@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

How sad is it that a professional athlete needs to do this Let’s not forget how the media also made Kyrie out to be a bad guy

[–] Vaccaria_@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Jackie Moon would be proud

[–] Gang_Gang_Onward@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

the parents that manipulated the kid into doing this rubbing their hands rn, jackpot

[–] Jomaccin@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Wait Flint has had clean water for like 2 years now

[–] yojoman@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

$800k is all its taking and your government couldn't find the money? Damn...

[–] reeposterr@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Man, it would really be easy to root for this dude if not for the anti-setimism stuff. I really hope he doesn't spout anymore of those bs in his time here in the Mavs.

[–] CupOfHotTeaa@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Kyrie has always been involved in many good deeds like this

[–] Tearz_in_rain@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

This was literally an election issue in 2016.

Why is this STILL a problem.

America fucking sucks, but kudos to this youngster and to Kyrie.

[–] happyflappypancakes@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

It's funny because where I live has even worse water quality lol. In fact, loads of places have way worse water.

[–] pointguard22@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Clean water for healthy living: good! Vaccine for healthy living: bad! Crossed me up again Kyrie!

[–] Relative_Airline_354@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

The simple answer is Kyrie doesn’t trust the government . The kid wants people to have water filters. Why? because people don’t trust the governments claim that the water is safe to drink now. Kyrie also doesn’t trust the government when it comes to vaccines.

[–] ja21121@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Nobody in basketball runs a propaganda machine like ole Ky. Why is it that we only hear about kyrie donating to causes? I'm positive MANY athlete donate all over the place, but everytime kyrie does, a post is made about it here. Is this like a Nation of islam propaganda thing or something?

[–] bigatjoon@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

The Flint water crisis is still going, 5 years after they wrote, shot, and released a Hollywood feature film about it

[–] Afraid-Department-35@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Oh boy, Kyrie being in the headlines regardless if its good or bad means the Reddit pitchforks be coming out.
