Barnsley leading this with a -686 goal difference.

[–] MAMBAMENTALITY8-24@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Thats how you know they are the kings of the championship

[–] SorenKnoxville@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Who’s made the most money from promotion?

[–] Alpha_Jazz@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Well it would just be whoever has spent the most time in the PL. Since you don’t make money from the actual act of promotion

[–] therik85@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

It would be whoever has spent the most time in the Premiership recently. It wouldn't surprise me if Luton will end up making more this season than Coventry did in the first 10 seasons up there.

[–] four_four_three@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Probably Leicester overall given their peaks

Everton still near the bottom lol

[–] SandThatsKindaMoist@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Yea us playing hundreds of games less in the second division than every other team is a good thing.

There are three other teams from Burton above Burton Albion lmao.

[–] marktandem@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

All 3 of those other Burton teams are part of the lineage of Albion. Swifts and Wanderers joined to form Burton United, which later became a part of Albion.

[–] MimesAreShite@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Burton went through loads of teams in the early 20th century

[–] bjohnsonarch@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Something interesting to compare between this link and the EPL All-time Table would be the least successful Championship team to have ever played in the EPL - Northampton Town!

[–] NaturalApartment9828@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Barnsley being 1st but also having the worst GD is a lovely sight

[–] Talidel@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I laughed at the 700ish extra games for a 300 ish point lead.

[–] mattBJM@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

One must imagine Barnsley happy

[–] homity3_14@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I read somewhere that Barnsley were the team that had played most second-flight seasons but I didn't realise how far ahead they were - over 600 games more than Hull in second.

[–] qwerty1519@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Norwich are also 24th in the all time premier league table.

[–] OneDishwasher@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Preston in 12th is very satisfying to me.

[–] THE_LFG@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

what did we do to you mate, we're just consistently mid

[–] OneDishwasher@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I know! I'm the biggest Preston supporter in America. Being top of the table earlier this season made me uncomfortable

Don't forget Barnsley, You're here forever

[–] discojesus100@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

We’re not even there now 😭

[–] Appropriate-Map-3652@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Tbh you should have gone up over Wednesday, you were the much better team in the playoff final.

If nothing else I can't imagine you'd have been any worse than they are right now.

[–] Zeta-Omega@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Well the only way is up, or of course you can be taken by shadow and flame and fall into the conference.

[–] discojesus100@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

This means automatic promotion to the PL no?

Preston being a mid table team is never getting old

[–] joelobifan@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Supporting Preston and palace most be the most dull thing in the world

[–] Cypher360@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

They are not midtable, they are 12th

[–] simpodemayo@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

barnsley in second division purgatory

[–] TheHolyGoalie@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Can’t believe Ipswich aren’t there

[–] Appropriate-Map-3652@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

We didn't make the second tier until the 50s, so have had a lot less games than the other teams.

On the full table we're a place below Norwich with 100 games less played.

[–] gooneruk@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yep, I was going to query that, if it were only the Championship era. Ipswich got relegated from the Premier League in about 1995, and were in the Championship until they got relegated 18 months ago. I can't think of any other team that has been in purgatory for anywhere near as long. Maybe Preston?

[–] Appropriate-Map-3652@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

We were relegated in 2019 so a bit more than 18 months ago. And we were last relegated from the PL in 2001. Our relegation to League One was the first time we'd been out the top two leagues in England since 1957.

But before that we were the longest serving Championship club. I think it might be Bristol City now?

[–] Grim_Farts_Barnsley@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Lol Barnsley

And United top out of the Sheffield Clubs, as is tradition :)

[–] dkfisokdkeb@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Because Wednesday have spent longer in the top flight I'd imagine

Man City have the 6th most games in the top flight

[–] bjohnsonarch@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

[–] frenchbud@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Thanks I was here for that, considering the difference in games played that should be the default sorting value if you want to make an all-time table that means something

[–] bjohnsonarch@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Plus, the one major caveat I would add to both charts is that the English Football League changed to the 3-point win scheme in 1981-1982 season, so I have no idea how that would influence the points per game calculation to make a true all-time table. OP's table, provided from the link in this post, calculates the points total using the 3-point scheme.

[–] BrotherSeamus@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

that should be the default sorting value

That would be a totally different chart. Spurs and the Manchester teams would be sorted to the top on far fewer matches played.

Preston mid table no matter which way you sort it.

[–] NotoriousFregula@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Tell me what I'm missing:

I'm counting 58 seasons in Barnsley history between Championship and Second Division.

3.289 matches equals 56,70 matches per season. How does this add up at all?

[–] minimus_@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Surprised to see Grimsby there, never think of them as being a Championship stalwart.

[–] Fakeappleseverywhere@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

I didn’t even consider blackpool being here. I figured they just gathered a bunch of Charlie Adam’s hungover sleeping in the park and they somehow managed to fake it till they made it

[–] Leading_Ship_1730@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Where is man city?

[–] crapability@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

When Middlesbrough back? I remember watching them some 20 years ago because I liked Juninho Paulista. They seem to have faded into obscurity since that time.

[–] happymemersunite@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Keep these stats rolling in.

[–] ImGoingBlankAgain@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Fucking hell a league which we’re near the top in feel like I’m hallucinating
