Unsurprising.

Maybe a couple dozen more of the cryptkeepers will die off before midterms and they're forced to take on some younger blood that isn't sucked from virgins.

DNC: quick we need replacement candidates, start hitting the ground and get to every nursing home you can find!!!

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

The speaker has throat cancer, so there’s that.

[–] Absaroka@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

Interesting timing, with 75 Democrats bowing to the GOP and voting against the party to "[express] gratitude to law enforcement officers, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel, for protecting the homeland."

One could argue, those 75 Democrats are the epitome of the old, feckless, Republican-light lawmakers that should be facing primary opposition (which is why Hogg has been kicked out).

If one of your congressmen is on that list, give them a call and voice your displeasure.

[–] reddig33@lemmy.world 30 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Well, I will be donating to David Hogg’s org mentioned in the article from here on out, instead of the Democratic Party.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I would vet* each candidate, accordingly.

This is what turned up for who he's endorsing as a Congressional candidate, but we'll see: https://progressivevotersguide.com/virginia/2023/general/irene-shin?language_content_entity=en

[–] pjwestin@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, it's important to remember that Hogg has only talked about his desire to see younger voices, which doesn't necessarily equate to progressive, and the only issue I know he has strong beliefs on is gun control. Thar doesn't mean we shouldn't give the DNC hell for the rat-fucking they have time, but we should be cautious in case he endorses any young Abundance Dems.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm for sensible arms rights/control, as well.

[–] pjwestin@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I know it's not rational, but the more fascistic the government gets, the less interested in gun control I am.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It seems extremely rational.

[–] pjwestin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Well, if your plan is to defend you home from a fascistic government's intrusion, you'll be killed in a hail of gunfire. But if your plan is to take up arms against a fascistic government, you'll be killed by predator drones the first time you step into the open.

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 days ago (3 children)

The DNC is, clearly, going to shit the bed on this, but let's not act like a gun control zealot is what the US "left" needs right now.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 24 points 3 days ago

Literally nobody here cares about Hogg's gun activism. The DNC needed someone who would primary incumbents and inject new blood into the party, and Hoggs was that.

[–] Chocrates@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

How is it not? Any zealot that has good intentions is what we need right now. Placating the right got us fascism.

[–] TranscendentalEmpire@lemmy.today 2 points 3 days ago (2 children)

And in the face a fascism we should be telling people on the left to disarm themselves?

He's better than the establishment in the DNC, but that like saying oral herpes is better than getting your lips ripped off by a pitbull. It's still not a great scenario either way you look at it.

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 4 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Gun control isn't disarming everyone.

[–] SupraMario@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Death by a thousand cuts. That's the end goal. Your idea that gun control isn't disarming everyone, is like saying ICE is only deporting the real law breakers.

[–] TranscendentalEmpire@lemmy.today 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I didn't say it was? However, if we currently had stricter gun control who do you think the current administration would be attempting to utilize those laws to prosecute?

If we had a fair legal system and our political leaders weren't literal fascist, I would absolutely advocate for strict gun control. That's just not the political landscape we currently inhabit.

If those laws were present today, you would have the ATF hunting down every brown person with a gun and right winged chuds would be free to keep their massive arsenals, ensuring that christo-fascist maintain an absolute monopoly on violence.

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

if we currently had stricter gun control

The original comment I responded to was "let's not act like a gun control zealot is what the US "left" needs right now". Right now, we don't have those stricter gun control laws, so your theoretical universe with the slippery slope is irrelevant. This is a race for NY Mayor, and Mamdani is exactly what we need right now.

original comment I responded to was "let's not act like a gun control zealot is what the US "left" needs right now".

Yeah.....? And your response was so off point that even you decided it was worth deleting.

Right now, we don't have those stricter gun control laws, so your theoretical universe with the slippery slope is irrelevant.

Lol, the person you were responding to was specifically calling out David Hoggs and the DNC dying on the hill of gun control.

This is a race for NY Mayor, and Mamdani is exactly what we need right now.

Wut? We were specifically talking about David hogg what does mamdani have to do with our conversation? You might remember what you were talking about about if you didn't delete your own comment, fucking coward.

[–] Chocrates@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

I dunno, I disagree but I don't have other facts to back up that opinion.
Thank you for the insight.

It's not really based on facts, more of a matter of opinion. I agree that the democratic party needs to be shakin up, I just think it needs guidance from a more militant left winged voice to counteract just how far right the GOP has gotten.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Its more important for them to keep the party conservative and under their control than it is for them to win elections.

Yeap, they'd rather lose to someone like trump than win with someone like AOC or Sanders. Who in reality are pretty much average centerist when compared to most liberal countries.

Democrats adopting third way politics have basically led this country to fascism.

[–] mercano@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

God do we need to move away from first past the post so when we get into these situations, a new party can be formed without fear of splitting the vote and handing the election to the other end of the spectrum.

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 9 points 3 days ago

Hogg and others should form a shadow DNC (DSC?) as an organization with the goal of primarying weak Democrats. I've been done donating to the DNC for years, but I'd jump right on board with the DSC.

[–] randon31415@lemmy.world -2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Let's hope Hogg doesn't switch to Musk's new party.

Yeah I can see Musk giving him a superpac money enema and then pulling a Palpatine.
