A place to politely discuss the tools, technique and culture of photography.

This is not a good place to simply share cool photos/videos or promote your own work and projects, but rather a place to discuss photography as an art and post things that would be of interest to other photographers.

Hello, after a few years of other things taking up my free time im getting back into photography. Im looking for a non subscription based editor as well as something that can do star stacking for star trails and easy to learn sky replacements. Would love to hear any input and suggestions. I understand that i may not be able to get it all in one software and that i might need a 2nd stacking software.

Thanks in advance!

JMO, and possibly unpopular - we'll see:

Get the Adobe Photography bundle and be done with it.

Or, spend a bunch of time messing around with other things, only to arrive at that conclusion anyway, realizing that the subscription fee, equivalent to one premium streaming service, is totally worth it for a full-featured photo editor and organizer with a huge community and tons of online resources and great extensions and a terabyte of online storage.

For $20, you get Lightroom Classic, Cloud and Photoshop. LRC and PS are already doing amazing things with generative AI, including cloud replacements.
