I lost a fair bit of weight recently, and whenever anyone complements me on it and asks how I did it, I have to resist the urge to say "cancer" just to see the look on their face.

Mine is depression. When you have food at home but the idea of getting up to even grab food out of the fridge is too much.

Certain antidepressants will make you balloon.
And, of course, you will feel a lot better.

Poverty more pushes you towards buying cheaper food that's often unhealthier. Of course worse poverty pushes towards buying less food

this is mostly just true in america, in europe at least cheap food is healthier, because the cheapest things are stuff like potato and onions.

[–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 3 points 1 day ago

Not true in Finland. High calorie is cheapest.

Maybe he's born with it.

Maybe it's poverty.

Cancer is a good one for weight loss too.

Never comment on someone's weight unless you 1) know them personally and they've shared their goals with you, and 2) see them achieving those goals and you know they'd appreciate the support. Otherwise it's fine just to mind your own business and not say a damn thing, because maybe you just don't know.

Almost learned this the hard way with a coworker. Mentioned to my boss that another (previously overweight) guy in our office had clearly lost a lot of weight and that I hadn't had a chance to let him know he was looking good, and my boss got wide-eyed and said, "Don't do that...he's got stage III cancer."
