I have my first pair of decent headphones (DT 770) and want to store them properly. I was thinking of getting a headphone stand, but I am worried about the stand, indenting the pad where the headphone would sit.

Is this something that I should not worry about? I wanted to get a case for it but I’m not sure what would fit it properly.

I just put mine on the desk.

A stand can work too but may reduce the lifespan of the pads. By how much? I'm not sure. But you can get new pads when they eventually need to be replaced.

You've bought some of the most durable headphones you can get. You can drop them on the floor every day for years if you want.

The padded portion of the headband on 770s can be very easily and cheaply replaced if you're worried. Even so, simply hanging them by the pad won't damage them. I've had T70s and DT880s for something like five years now, exclusively hanging by the headband, and they're fine. Literally not an issue.

I just put my dt990 on my desk. Otherwise I store them in their box

I would not think too much about this.
