Thank you for the archive.today link, OP.

I skimmed through the article but could not find a clear reason for this new flip-flop. I'm wondering if they are simply unable to reach their horrible quota without getting to their workplaces.

All of this is very sad, it's just heartbreaking.

but could not find a clear reason for this new flip-flop

trump wants 3k deportees a day...

ICE won't go after actual criminals or gang members because they're scared...

They already can't meet the quota, even going after workers allowed to be here. And they're never going after actual criminals because that's dangerous and difficult.

But no matter what they do, they're eventually going to run out of targets who will comply. Either because they deported them all already. Or because they rethought what compliance gets them.

In fascism, when the numbers get too low, the criteria changes. They'll start figuring out how to deport legal immigrants next, or whoever the next most vulnerable group is. They will openly deny it and then they'll just do it, in standard gaslighting fashion.

We are ALL on the list. They chip away at whoever is easiest to target next. They villainize the immigrants, then the religiously different (Muslims, Jews, etc.), then the political enemies, threats or even perceived threats, even within the MAGA camp, and so forth. They just start with the lowest hanging fruit. They won't stop until the orchard is completely stripped and burned down. There are the more safe and less safe but ultimately NO ONE is safe.

Add mental illness, LGBTQ, and autism to that list. It's all straight out of 30s-40s Nazi Germany's playbook.

My impression is that this comes down to internal politics within the crime family, with there being some disagreement over the relative importance of hate and prosperity.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Hate is going to win, obviously.

[–] lennybird@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

The nazis like Miller and Johnson are winning over the business wing. Seems about right when comparing to Nazi Germany, too.

Don't make me menacingly brandish my cane, you pesky whippersnapper!

Yeah yeah Oldtimer 😁

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 week ago

That’s a positive spin.

Pessimistic me expected this all along; the goal is to make immigrants feel unsafe no matter where they are, even if ICE only targets some areas when they feel like it.

It’s the same way Trump approaches everything else.

The hallmarks of incompetent governance.

Just another TACO Tuesday.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

TACO. He turns so fast, we should use his rotations to produce electricity. Then he would at least do something useful for a change.

we knew this would happen – they’re going to make cities a war zone and show they didn’t really have any principles regarding immigration to begin with.

attacking cities was the goal.

[–] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

For Stephen Miller, a white ethnostate is the goal.

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago

Stephen "PeeWee Himmler" Miller

[–] WatDabney@sopuli.xyz 12 points 1 week ago

This illustrates one of the many oddities about Trump.

With any other president, we had policy debates and stated goals and decisions made and implemented.

With Trump, we just have this string of essentially arbitrary threats, promises and rhetoric, and alongside that is a string of essentially arbitrary policies arbitrarily enacted and rescinded and followed and ignored, and there's no necessary correlations between any of it.

It's another of the things that I think Trump does simply because he's a delusional toxic narcissist, a genuinely stupid person, and emotionally a toddler, and another of the things that the would-be autocrats - the billionaires and the CEOs and the religious right and the Republicans and the rest of the greedy and power-hungry scum - take advantage of him doing.

[–] boydster@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Oh good, Stephen Miller is back in control (edit: I dropped this /s)

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Trump just says whatever he thinks his target audience wants to hear, and it has no bearing on what he does.

[–] Donjuanme@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Probably had enough time to "clean up" his own businesses records

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

why bother?

[–] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

I see Stephen Miller gained control of his floppy mech suit again. It must have been so frustrating for him to see oligarchs eclipse on his dream of an American Holocaust that he used his emergency favor he earned by selling his soul. One more deal with the devil and his horns are gonna stick out like in Fabled: The lost chapters. His appearance is definitely on the cusp.

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago

Apparently HitlerPig made that announcement without clearing it with Stephen "PeeWee Himmler" Miller first.
