Back in my day a weird yell was enough to kill your run.

Just a yeeaaoowww and you're done. Now, if you're Trump and you are literally strangling someone to the point that they make that sound, you're presidential material because "that person getting choked was probably a democrat pedophile communist so he deserves it."

[–] Chemical@lemmy.world 28 points 11 months ago

I agree, the more negative shit he does, the more momentum he gains with the right.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 17 points 11 months ago

And you better be able to spell potatoe! (And after Mr. Quayle's call to Pence to shore him up on preserving our democracy, I'm sad I ever laughed at him.)

[–] SheeEttin@lemmy.world 14 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Trump has said and done enough things to kill his run, too... But Republicans and conservatives wanted him to win, so the media machine was on his side, instead of against him.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

It's because republicans demand "Fairness", and define it as "You can't say something bad about us without saying something bad about Democrats, even if you have to make a false equivalence."

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 11 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It was altered by the press to sound extra weird. It was a regular whoop in a cheering crowd, but isolate the mic and hey-presto it sounds weird.

[–] Zoboomafoo@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

I don't think it was altered, I heard that he was using a microphone that was designed to not pick up crowd noise

Reminded me of the Lion King when Simba is a baby trying to roar, same effect too.

[–] superduperenigma@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

yeeaaoowww

I feel like it was more of a yeeaaaughhhh

But hey, potato potatoe.

[–] psmgx@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

A yell was at least brazen and bold. A later candidate got canned for "Please Clap"

[–] thekerker@lemmy.world 52 points 11 months ago (1 children)

What frustrates the hell out of me is that these warning flags are being raised in opinion sections and not in main articles in news outlets. It also frustrates me that local news outlets, where a vast majority of people throughout America still get their news, has not been covering this at all.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 43 points 11 months ago (1 children)

That's because the local outlets are all controlled by Sinclair group which is a right wing corporation. All thanks to Ajit Pai's FCC throwing out a rule that prevented it.

That fucking guy is a true a piece of shit.

The media is avoiding it...like all the media cited in this post? Or the NY Times article today discussing many of the points in those articles? Or the OP article? I'm so tired of news outlets reporting on news outlets. The news isn't news, I want actual news about events.

[–] Gargleblaster@kbin.social 5 points 11 months ago

Like I had to include that many different outlets in order to provide a full picture. FYI, APNews reported about this in late August. The fact that the NYT is telling you about it this week means that something very wrong occurred for two months while they didn't.

The rightwing having a 1000-page guide to their overthrow of the country is what I would call the most important event of this year on US soil.

Do you want to only be told about the climate change rejection and not the other plans? That's what's fucked up.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago (3 children)

#3 - The military leadership is not going to back Trump's plays. OTOH, I see no reason he can't fire them and put in loyalists.

[–] WetBeardHairs@lemmy.ml 16 points 11 months ago

This is why Tuberville is blocking promotions. It's the same strategy that was used by the GOP to swing the federal courts to be unqualified hacks that are loyal to the GOP. Tuberville is just a useful idiot though - he didn't come up with the idea - he's just doing what he was told to do.

So if the GOP succeeds and can wait out until the second Trump presidency, then the senate will allow promotions for exclusively trump loyalists to the upper eschelons of the US military and they will then begin to purge everyone who doesn't publicly suck trump's dick.

[–] NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

If "the military leadership" were as obsessed with upholding Freedom as people pretend they are, they would have stepped in on Jan 6 when it was clear that the POTUS was behind the insurrection and the Vice POTUS and Speaker of the House were both under siege and unable to act.

Instead, they sat on their hands and waited to see how things will shake out.

But hey, I am sure the next time... the exact same POTUS stages an insurrection and tries to have the government executed that the "military leadership" will react in a drastically different way. Yeah...

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Shouldn't the military not be involved with domestic affairs?

[–] NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip 3 points 11 months ago

I would suggest checking out the period between 1861 and 1865 as a good example of precedent for the US military operating on US soil. Same with every time we trotted out the army to murder some Native Americans. Also, the National Guard gets called out when there are "riots" to this day.

But also: If the stance is that the US Military is suddenly not allowed to operate on US Soil, then this is all moot and they will sit and allow the insurrection regardless of how "military leadership" feels.

[–] Gargleblaster@kbin.social 5 points 11 months ago

This is why Tuberville is blocking military appointments and talking about not want a woke military.

[–] OldWoodFrame@lemm.ee 21 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

The argument isn't that they aren't covering it, it's that they covered it and haven't continued reporting it over and over again.

But it happened 4 days ago, and as I search right now there are articles from the New York Times, USA Today, NBC News, CNN, The Hill, all from the last 24hrs. They ARE still covering it.

And the articles mostly call it out as echoing Nazi language, I don't see how you could claim that they aren't covering it negatively enough either.

There is just nothing to this complaint.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 10 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I see how you mean, but the complaint is that “Trump echoes Nazi language” is the most limp, passive and normalizing spin possible. The man is unhinged and utterly disastrous. Use those words, say that.

They “can’t” because “journalism” which I also disagree with, but it’s a different conversation.

As far as there being articles about the speech, that’s not at issue. Corporate news outlets have a huge guilty verdict against them for running cover for trump at every level in 2016. From the tone, to the spin, to the format, to the rationale; “both sides” and “her emails” and 1000 hot takes as to Clinton’s perceived missteps it all worked hand-in-hand with russian hacking, propaganda, and illegal campaign contributions to support trump.

If corporate news wants to live in a free and fair democracy, the have GOT to figure out how to call trump what he is, because this format from the 50’s will doom us all. This speech is a prime example.

[–] xkforce@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Saying he is echoing nazi language is only normalizing what he says if nazi language itself is normalized. And if that were the case, you have way bigger problems than you realize.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 months ago

We have way bigger problems then we realize....

[–] Gargleblaster@kbin.social 0 points 11 months ago

Trump saying that out loud happened 4 days ago. This plan is not new this week. There are bits and pieces of new coverage going back a couple months.

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 13 points 11 months ago

The media wants the clicks they can get.

[–] NegativeLookBehind@kbin.social 11 points 11 months ago

The road to Trumps authoritarian America will be paved with lenient judges and federal agencies that don’t enforce laws against him.

MSM NEWS: MEDIA NOT COVERING TRUMP BEING NAZI!

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

I've said this elsewhere in another topic, but the News Media has a vested financial interest in a second Trump presidency, because people eventually burn out on the daily mass shooting coverage and various orphan grinding reports.

But trump? people turned in every day to find out what latest buffoonery the incompetent pumpkin faced buffoon did, with no burn out, with no exhaustion. Driving ratings, and viewership numbers.

and they will do everything they can to celebrate his actions in outlandish news coverage, while minimizing the worst parts of it, So everyone will watch the dancing monkey's dancing, with the ultimate goal being a second Trump presidency and all the delicious attention and ratings that would bring with it.

[–] JustZ@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago

The corporate news media will absolutely not stop Donald Trump. He will cut their investors' taxes.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago (2 children)

And yet I've somehow heard about it a hundred times in 2 days from the media.

[–] psmgx@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah it's been pretty well discussed on multiple platforms. Literally every social media platform, plus AP News, etc.

AP is literally quoting a senator about how a Trump presidency would be a disaster, one of the top stories this morning: https://apnews.com/article/west-virginia-joe-manchin-senate-5fa02d965a72526488859bc0866c06dd

Zoomers expect the MSM to make everything an editorial.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

I believe every show on MSNBC opened with it. Is that not MS enough?

[–] killeronthecorner@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Some news sources have taken to producing articles that are essentially drawn out virtue signalling tweets. I'm guessing because they are often met with a positive reception on Twitter, as well as a lot of head nodding and smug knowing looks.

It's moral grandstanding without an ounce of actual conviction and, ultimately, click bait.

[–] alienanimals@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

The media just wants clicks. They don't care if it's good news, bad news, fake news, etc.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 4 points 11 months ago

Course it did, they haven't learned that "Fairness" is a scam when you've got a bad faith agent

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world -2 points 11 months ago

It's not like they can call him out on it. They might get death threats from his nazi followers.
