I have these Apple ear buds I cut off to only have it in my right ear for hiking, snowboarding, etc. Just curious if it’s using half the power from the phone to power them or not.

No you would have to isolate the contact on the plug for the cut off bud and microphone to isolate power like that.

As far as your phone goes it sees in the logic you have 2 earbuds connected and a microphone so it will send power even if nothing is there.

Honestly if you want to save battery just use airplane mode and turn off Bluetooth or get an old iPod or mp3 player.

That's not how electricity works. Things pull power, not have it pushed to them.

You can push voltage, but to become power it needs somewhere to go.
