The topic of how players adapt to the modern game is pretty common, but I generally hear how centers from the 2000s with their heavy post play and lack of an outside shot wouldn’t do well in today’s NBA. I’m wondering who you guys think are guards from that era who would have difficulty adjusting to the current NBA today.

I don't think Kidd would do as well as he did. Andre Miller too.

Most of Team USA 2004

Iverson, Josh Smith

Kobe Bryant. His rape case would put an end to his career.

You know, I think you’re right. In terms of todays cancel culture (how it’s shoot first ask questions later), I don’t know if he’d survive this. It is simply too controversial to support these people, whether right or wrong, you are at risk of being canceled if you support someone with an accusation.

People need to remember how much his death and career achievement are guiding their downvotes toward you.

jason williams would not have had that type of leash like he did early in his career and would probably be a career backup now

I think the two that immediately pops into people head are Marbury and Iverson.

Jason Terry would be even more desired.

Every player would translate to today’s style… every star players has changed and adapted throughout their career

Peja, he was basically a 6'10" shooting guard.

Monta Ellis

Low-efficiency/high-volume shooters would have much shorter leashes if they didn't improve their efficiency (i.e. someone like Stackhouse)

I’m not too sure how AI would adapt to the modern NBA. I’m sure he’d still be good, but I think his value would be a bit reduced

brother said AI. that's enough sports reddit for tonite.

Yes. 5’11 scoring guard; everyone in the nba-which is now focused around length and switch ability- will be absolutely cooked

[–] birdflag@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Jerry Stackhouse wouldn’t have been offered a second contract.

Remember, recent rule changes opened up the offense to allow more scoring. Guards today are pretty much free to roam around unencumbered. Someone like Iverson wouldn't have to adjust his 3pt shooting because he'd be attacking the rim with more impunity than before, now that we've got big men out on the perimeter.

Jameer Nelson

Jayson Kidd, the league is slightly less tolerant about beating your wife these days so that might just put a little too many blips in his playtime

[–] BigHomieBaloney@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Nate Robinson would be even shorter

Jameer Nelson

andre miller. slow couldnt shoot, unathletic so he couldnt dunk. benefited from the slower pace and facing smaller guards of that era.

[–] dentedpat@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Trenton Hassell. Started 428 games in 9 seasons. Was a starter for three different teams. Made 95 threes in his career, averaged 1.8 assists per game, 2.8 rebounds a game. Now that I think about it I don't get how he played so much in the 2000s.

Or was this question just about star guards?

I think pre-injury Derrick Rose wouldn’t have a shot at MVP. He would still be good, but without a reliable jumper or 3-point shot it would be tough for him to be MVP calibre

Steve Nash's elite shooting would allow him to average 27/10

[–] Mictor_Grossenstein@alien.top 1 points 10 months ago

Steve Nash, his poor 3 point shooting.
