Man I had a curly one that you could set in all imaginable poses

I had this one; felt like I was living in the future.

I have a knock off of that on my gameboy. Found it at a retro shop for 12$ this weekend. Fired up my castlevania in big screen glory

Sadly, that's an eBay photo I searched for the comment. I had that exact setup, but it got sold at a yard sale over 2 decades ago :(

Same. I remember being in the back of the car thinking literally nothing better than this

Have you tried literally nothing?

[–] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 day ago

Well sure, as an adult it's bliss, but as a kid it made me want to chew my own hair off.

Nothing better than H-H-H-HEADACHES

Same! That one has the Official Nintendo Seal of Approval®, and the magnifying lens was a bigger help than you would think.

I remember using something similar for my GBA. They sucked, but they were better than the alternative of not playing.

Hahaha, yeah you're right, this sucked, but not worse then rawdogging an unlit lcd in on the go conditions. ColorLCD is a lot worse still without backlight. But not playing as alternative... phew... yeah..

I remember waiting for my parents to drive by street lights so could unpause and kind of make out the screen. Really I was just walking Link around the beaches of Koholint collecting rupees until I maxed out. Then I'd buy lots of bombs and stuff, use those, then repeat the process.

Sigh. Good times...

There were so many versions of this. I wonder if Nintendo ever produced or endorsed an official one.

My parents got me one with an orange light, which washed out the colors but (probably) made it less obnoxious to use while they were driving.

I had a light for mine. Took 4 AA batteries. Amazing that I never complained about that... But my mom made us use rechargable batteries.
