Just seeing Joe Burrow’s out for the year now and it’s been brutal. How many backup QBs have started games? Is it a NFL modern record?

Aaron Rodgers out for year Kirk Cousins out for year Daniel Jones out for year Deshaun Watson out for year Joe Burrow out for year

Not to mention Justin Fields, Matt Stafford, Kyler Murray, etc. who have been banged up

"Ha ha I'm in Danger" - Patrick Mahomes

[–] TheFakeRabbit1@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

This is nit picking, but didn’t Kyler get hurt last season

The NFL needs to redo the CBA, and get contact back in practices. OLs are horrendous.

[–] kpyle@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

After 25 years of a QB carousel broken up only by Baker, nah man. Par for the course.

[–] TetrisTech@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I do like everybody having think pieces and theories about it but sometimes shit just happens

[–] acringecommunist@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Clearly we need more roughing the passer penalties.

[–] potagada@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

As a dolphins fan, absofuckinglutely not

[–] Early-Retirement-22@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

It might be, I can't remember another this bad.

[–] Nasty_Tricks69@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

2019 had a lot of QB injuries. Stafford, Ryan, Mahomes, and Brees all missed time. I know there were more but those ones are off the top of my head

[–] superstarrr99@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

No idea, but it’s been a brutal year.

[–] user20916@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

As a 49ers fan, no. Last year was a nightmare.

[–] bimbolimbotimbo@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Not even close homie

[–] AmethystAlizarin@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

If this is what it takes for Washington to have a healthy QB for a season, sign me up

Is this the first year folks started watching football? Injuries are always going to be part of the game until the NFL decide to completely implement flag football rules. I think that’s why the league office is pushing its players to participate in the 2028 Olympics to see how the ratings are!

Any let’s look at the injuries. A Aron - 40yo qb playing on a shit field. What could go wrong? Cousins - 36yo qb playing on turf who takes a lot of sacks. D Jones - running qb who takes a ton of sacks on a chit field. Watson - another guy who takes a ton of sacks. Burrow - dude has been in the top 10 in getting sack every season he’s played. What amazes me is how Sam Howell is even able to walk with all the sacks he takes.

2 points - pass heavy league = QBs getting sacked more = getting hurt more. Also it’s not just sack, it’s all the hits where the qb just barely got rid of the ball. Also the league has shifted from pocket passers to read option/running qb’s. Again that just means more opportunities to hit the qb. I think eventually the league is going to shift back to emphasizing the rb’s and the run. NFL can change all the rules they want but it’s still at its core a violent sport.

[–] mattcojo2@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Probably not but it’s up there. Last year though we had the record for most different QBs to start a game in a given year.

And what’s most telling to me is that despite the NFL doing their best to prevent these kinds of injuries it just hasn’t helped to fix that problem. .

[–] BizzarreCaverns109@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Justin fields will be back and I’m not sure. I thought it’s standard and like QBs are getting excessively hurt from previous years

[–] antihero-joe@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Brock Purdy effect. Teams would rather start their shitty rookie than find a competent QB in the open market. This is what happens when being terrible is more valuable than being mediocre.

Get ready for next year when players will get suspended for breathing on QBs

[–] AlexRain1@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

[–] wcarl210@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Nah, best year

[–] yellowtripe@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Time for RBs to get their value back!

[–] ashth3great31@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

We started a “Last One Standing” pool at work. Everybody paid $1 and picked a QB who is still healthy. At the end of the season, if your QB is still active, you split the pot with whoever still is in.

It’s already doing better than my fantasy team this year 🤦‍♀️

I’m struggling to explain this to my friends, but I’m kinda getting over this sport. Too many injuries that have too much impact on the results. Don’t get me wrong, I love watching a good game, but it just all seems so random.

[–] InternationalBand494@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Sadly, that’s part of all sports

That’s just sport though, people get injured and it has effects on the team.

[–] dillpickles36@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

QB injuries and FanDuel sponsored refs freed up my weekends

Captain Kirk injured really hurts. He was balling when most people wrote the Vikings off.

[–] Firefighter55@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

Don’t forget Anthony Richardson.

[–] dennydiamonds@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

IDK, but DTR about to snatch ROY from Stroud!!

[–] ukhawksfan@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

No, the 88 season was worst, it seemed like a starter was lost every week even our own formerly indestructible Dave Kreig went down with a seperated shoulder. The NFL were in panic mode at the number of QB's going down as it negatively affected the product. In addition there numerous walking wounded who gutted it through. Ironically to everyone's amazement the perpetually injury prone Jim McMahon wasn't initially on the list but eventually he too succumbed. Sadly the worst was Bernie Kosar who suffered what seemed an innocuous injury to the elbow of his throwing arm and was lost for the season and was never the same again. Go Hawks

[–] davebrose@alien.top 1 points 11 months ago

I am sorry for the others QB’s getting injured but Deshaun Watson getting hurt is beautiful Karma, I hope he never plays another snap and the Browns have to keep paying him! Scumbag player playing for scumbag ownership.
