Someone who a lot of people consider to be a great player that you think is just good, or someone people think is good that you think is just ok or not very good.

For me, it’s Bam Adebayo. I think he’s an elite defender, but offensively, I don’t think he’s that great. He’s far to inefficient for someone at his position. He has so many 8-15 or 10-18 type games. He scored 26 points on 26 shots in the finals. He can playmake for sure, but his scoring has always been a question for me.

Giddey Reaves perhaps Mikal Bridges if he doesn't realize he doesnt have to be backup guy

AD. Before I get crucified, I’m a huge UK fan and will always love AD for his NCAA championship. He has all the tools to be top 3 in the league but doesn’t have the fire. If he hasn’t taken the next step by now, he’s not going to

Morant. He is good but an overrated archetype. A PG who can’t shoot is just not that valuable to me.

[–] HoopsMcCann750@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Josh Giddey by a mile.

A guy whose weaknesses shooting and defensively make him profile as more of an 82 game player instead of a 16 game player except that he’s also one of the least efficient high-volume players in the regular season and his team consistently plays better when he’s not on the court.

I wish people saw in me what the Lakers see in Reeves

Marcus Smart. Playing hard doesn’t mean playing particularly well.

[–] cohex@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Why play harder when you can play Smarter.

[–] Solid-Confidence-966@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Banchero (I’ve been impressed this season tbf) but he’s looking closer to Julius Randle than Lebron James.

[–] Smellmyhand@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

For a while it was Ben Simmons but now that he’s pretty much irrelevant, I’m not sure who that is

[–] The_NGUYENNER@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Donovan Mitchell for me. I think he's a great talent but tries to be a hero way too much and sometimes it's like damn bro... give someone else a chance to play

[–] myredditaccount991@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Giannis. He's got the stats and hardware behind him but I don't enjoy watching him bulldoze over anyone in his path and waiting 10+ seconds every free throw attempt. Yawn.

[–] matzan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Wemby. He just tall as fuck.

Zion, Lamelo Ball, Chet Holmgren, Anthony Edwards

[–] WheedMBoise@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Heat fans will say this and then hype up some autogenerated undrafted dude they signed named Nate Doofenshmirtz who puts up 3.1 ppg shooting 17%

[–] Funny-Transition7869@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

scoot, small, cant shoot, not a big enough sample size to really prove me right or wrong yet but i dont think he has a high floor

[–] Original_Trick_8552@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Josh Giddey. Not only do I think he's a bad fit on the thunder, but also I'm not impressed by his shooting and defense for someone as highly regarded as he is

Lavine and lemelo ball. Both can score...neither contribute to winning

[–] dutchgfx@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think Lamelo is fine but Lavine totally stinks. "Doesn't contribute to winning" is exactly how I describe him. His skills are good but he just doesn't help you win basketball games

[–] goodnsaultey@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

James Harden

[–] EricFortman@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Maxey. He's playing good recently and he even dropped 50, but him being in MVP talks is silly. He's super fast and usualy plays solid, but I'm never worried about him when my team is playing the sixers.

[–] WheedMBoise@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He feels like one of those guys who will be good for 5 or so years and then fall off a cliff skill wise. I hope I’m wrong though, he seems like a good kid

[–] LogDogan4@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The hype is mostly dead at this point, but Blazers fans convincing themselves that Simons would be a credible Dame replacement was comical.

[–] VermontPizza@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Bam is playing really well this season, has DPOY locked up already and he’s slowly morphing into KG.

[–] WheedMBoise@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You and Lamar Odom have something in common and Stephen A Smith knows what it is

[–] it-was-justified@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Darius Garland meh 😐

[–] noknownothing@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Austin Reaves

[–] DrownedInBeans@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I just can't picture someone that looks like Kristaps Porzingis being a serious player who can hold up to a full season + intense playoff run. I'm not saying he isn't talented when he plays. But pretty much all the lanky/goofy bigs we've seen in this league (at leas in recent memory) have struggled to stay on the floor too much to have a notable impact in the postseason. If he can help the Celtics to a championship it would be totally unprecedented for both him and guys that look like him.

[–] d2kSON@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Am I too old? Is 8-15, 10-18 no longer efficient?

[–] account051@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

My favorite part about this post is how you say he’s overhyped because he’s an elite defender who can playmake and score at a decent level which is exactly his hype level

[–] Whoiskimmy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Conley… Gobert… CP3… Booker… Reeves…

[–] 30another@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

One of those is not like the others

[–] No_Engineering_4925@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Wemby. He won’t ever be an unstoppable offensive player so he will never be best in the league level.

[–] Goatbeerdog@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Entire Clippers 4-star lineup

[–] ikonin@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Anfernee Simons and Shaedon Sharpe

[–] IntelligentEye2758@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

RJ Barrett

Who is he as a player? People talk about his shooting but it looks like his numbers have fallen off after his second season. Is he just an average 20 point scorer with a field goal percentage around known shooters Poku and Thubulle? Am I missing something that makes this guy a key part of an NBA team?

[–] rngskrtskrt@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Sohan, i think he it's Draymond who can't pass. So he is a basketball player who can't dribble, can't drive, can't shoot and can't pass.

[–] Spinner064@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Lebron james

[–] intelligentHat21@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Lebron and Michael Porter Jr.

[–] Rowdy_Bull@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Klay for his entire career. He did his role very well, but he isn’t a complete player. Lacking in own shot creation and dribbling. I think his legacy would be very different without Curry and illegal screens.

Hype has definitely cooled of during his Sixers time, but Tobias Harris was sort of hyped before and has been playing on a max contract for years now. I think it’s ridiculously overlooked how overpaid he is and how his salary has prevented the Sixers in actually putting together the last pieces.
