My GF an I are currently in SE Asia. We've enjoyed a few cities like Chiang Mai, KL, Da Nang etc but definitely prefer the towns/countryside. Although cliche, Ubud was enjoyable and I found Rawai in Phuket was a nice mix of countryside and town.

Where else would you recommend in SE Asia that has that small town countryside feel?

Noted. I'll give it a look. Haven't been yet so would love to go head first into this.

Taiwan is awesome. You still get a developed country but lots of mountains. Nice bus transportation though it gets super windy and nauseating around Alishan on those buses.

Cameron Highlands, Malaysia if you like to hike! Absolutely beautiful tea plantations and amazing hikes in that region.

God I fucking love tea. This sounds like a plan.

I liked Krabi Town alot. Khon Kaen or any other town in Isaan can be nice too.
